IMPORTANT NOTICE

To all friends of Romford Folk Club.

After 24 years at The Sun, London Road, we have to move out. Several of our regular members have been searching for alternative venues, and it is thanks to their great efforts we have secured a regular place at The White Horse.

Full details: The White Horse (Function Room), 118 High Road, Chadwell Heath, Romford, RM6 6NU. There is usually a choice of real ales on hand-pump and food is also available.

Please note: Our last night at The Sun will be Tuesday 28th March 2017. We hope to get a good crowd there to bid goodbye and to remember some of the great times we have all enjoyed at this venue. On Tuesday 4th April, we will begin a new chapter of Romford Folk Club at The White Horse. We look forward to seeing all our friends, old and new, at The White Horse.

The Romford Folk Club website will now require a major overhaul to update each page with our new details. Please bear with us while we undertake this process.

Wishing you every success in your new 'incarnation'. I played at the Romford Folk Club in the 60s as a member of The Halliard. I think the club was based in a pub in the market place.
                                  Best Wishes,
                                                      Nigel Paterson, mandolin, The Halliard.

IIRC there is no connection between the 1960s Romnford Folk Club and the present one. In the late 60s it was on a Saturday night in a pub in Mawney Road.

Guest, Peter is correct. The current Romford Folk Club was started in 1990. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of a club in Romford in the 60's.

Sorry, only just noticed this thread.Glad to see,on your web site that the club is still going strong and back at The Sun.
Regarding the post above from Nigel he is in fact correct, there was a folk club in Romford market place in the mid 1960's which was in a pub called the White Swan. It was the first club I used to attend from about 1964 through to 1966. From memory I think it was run by a guy called Vince and was on a Friday night. I do remember that they had a resident singer called Les Western. I was lucky enough to see some great performers there, mainly the well known names on the London folk scene at the time such as Cliff Aungier, Gerry Lochran,
John Foreman and Martin Windsor and Red Sullivan but also a number of visiting Americans including Doc Watson, Champion Jack Dupree and The New Lost City Ramblers.

I also recall an evening with Paul Simon as the guest during the time he was living in the U.K.
I dont know what happened to the club after 1966 but the White Swan pub was demolished towards the end of the 1960's due to it being unfit for habitation
Anyway I wish the current Romford folk club every success in the future.

I did one or two floor spots at RFC a few years ago - very welcoming place and nice people.
