Subject: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Bill D Date: 01 Jul 17 - 11:54 AM Many thousands of programs from over 2000 series. ('mostly' U.S.) http://otrrlibrary.org/ Don't get lost...... There's even a couple of Burl Ives programs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Bev and Jerry Date: 01 Jul 17 - 03:51 PM Thanks for posting that link. We love to listen to old time radio. In fact, every night at bedtime we listen to this radio station. They broadcast old time radio programs over the internet 24 x 7 with no commercial breaks except for those adverts built into the programs. Bev and Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Bill D Date: 01 Jul 17 - 10:40 PM I assume that station gets their programs from sources like otrr. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Jul 17 - 08:47 PM Thanks. There's some amazing stuff in there - I browsed at random, and the first thing I found to play was a Western Swing version of Speed the Plough (referred to as Speed the Plan). I've stuck a link to this site in my music folder. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Jul 17 - 09:03 PM Tried looking around for BBC stuff - found Paul Temple, Take it From Here and Beyond Our Ken. But sadly no Dick Barton. Thanks once again - this is quite a find. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Donuel Date: 03 Jul 17 - 08:53 AM The Jean Shepard Collection is great. If you are new to Jean Shepard you will find him fresh and current for modern times. Story telling at its best. You may know him as the writer of the movie Christmas Story. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: gillymor Date: 03 Jul 17 - 11:29 AM Thanks for the link, Bill. I've listening to "Gunsmoke" which I used to listen to with my Dad way back when. It was surprisingly well-written. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Bill D Date: 03 Jul 17 - 07:52 PM Glad this has found some adherents.... we in the Wash. DC area still have a Sunday night program with some of the 'classic' programs, but not many of the semi-famous ones. I used to listen to "I Love a Mystery" late at night..(against orders) but have not heard it in 60 years until this week. Lots to sort thru. |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: JHW Date: 04 Jul 17 - 06:56 AM Is Old Time a particular genre or does it mean any archived or historic programme repeat? |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Donuel Date: 04 Jul 17 - 09:55 AM So much is foretold in many of the story telling shows. Inner Sanctum tells of a 100,000 year old iceman hunter frozen in a glacier. The free association of JS about the nature of mankind are the stories I listened to under the covers at night and are representative of my posts to a shocking degree. As the tree is bent... |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Bill D Date: 04 Jul 17 - 10:11 AM JHW... Old Time just means that era when most people had only radio and no TV. From the 1930s to roughly the mid 1950s. No particular genre, but weighted towards sit-coms and drama. 'Some' news programs and some music..... |
Subject: RE: BS: Old Time Radio online From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Jul 17 - 06:46 PM Have you seen this? A friend shared it on facebook today: http://radio.garden/live/ I clicked on the link and it navigated itself to a small amateur radio station in my locality that is playing lots of oldtime songs and apparently stories. I've listened happily as I worked in my office this afternoon - it's like the sound track to an old Fred Astaire or Golddiggers of 1930-something film. But this is just one station, you can go listen to anything you want around the world. |
