I've posted this to the main board, won't be offended if the elves
move it to BS. But since much of the loved music of the
folk revival was political singer-songwriter, thought this
may be of general interest.

I hope the name ART YOUNG is known to many mudcaters. His political
cartoons for THE MASSES (if you've seen the movie REDS you will be
aware of this magazine of literary and social importance published
1911-1918, whose adherents included TEN DAYS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD
reporter John Reed, and other labor agitators, socialists, poets
et.al.) are among the greatest of the genre - a forerunner of HERBLOCK, RON COBB, and others.

FANTAGRAPHIS has just published a magnificently illustrated
book about Art Young: TO LAUGH THAT WE MAY NOT WEEP - The Life &
Times of Art Young.
To Laugh that we may not Weep
   http://www.fantagraphics.com/artofartyoung/

Young published two auto-biographies, which are delightful to read:
Horace Liveright, New York, 1928 ON MY WAY
Sheridan House, New York 1939: HIS LIFE AND TIMES
readily available on the secondary market.

Other of his published work:
1894 Hell Up to Date
1897 Author's Readings
1901 Through Hell with Hiprah Hunt (DOVER reprint 2016)
1927 Trees at Night
1930 Socialist Primer
1934 Art Young's Inferno: A Journey Through Hell Six Hundred Years
    After Dante.
1936 The Best of Art Young. Introduction by Heywood Broun.

much information and examples of his work will be found through
google, and in Wikipedia.

Cheers, Thomas.

Yeah, I'm gonna move it to the non-music section, Thomas. There's supposed to be interesting stuff to talk about there, too.
A Google Image Search (click) brings up a lot of interesting examples of his work, and some of it looks familiar. He has a very distinctive style of art.
Thanks for introducing him to me.

Sandra I hope you have been collecting Tom Toles. He is approachable and may even send you an unpublished sample. He is an incomparable genius.

In a while my cartoons going back to Reagan will be searchable.
In the meantime I'm obeying publisher rules by keeping the lid on original work. I am a comparable nerd.

(typical instant cartoon ideas)
US
Caption: Chuck Schumer; "Trump says Democrats are weak on crime. Untrue!
However Trump is strong on crime, his own!"

UK
Headlines: Paul Golding signs Trump Treaty
while only symbolic the Washington Accord...

cartoon ideas for the ages, come only rarely.

FYI: Fantagraphics has just published
ART YOUNG'S INFERNO (1934)
This edition also includes a foreword by curator Glenn Bray and an introduction by acclaimed graphic designer Steven Heller — plus the original 1934 essays by Young himself and his "friend, admirer, and attorney" Charles Recht.

Some of his work features in Jerry Silverman's "62 Outrageous Songs" (not outrageous by today's standards).
