Subject: RE: Tech: Upgrading old car CD player From: Gurney Date: 18 Aug 17 - 01:25 AM Now what you should do is write the radio PIN # in the handbook, if it has one. I had to replace mine in an old car I bought second-hand, when the car battery died suddenly. When a new battery was fitted, the radio required the PIN be entered within 5 tries. No chance. Also, the car alarm becomes switched on at battery installation, and can only be silenced with the remote, so you must have that with you, too. The car is nothing exotic, just a Camry. And yes, I had to buy an adaptor connection for the job, as Joe says. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Upgrading old car CD player From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Aug 17 - 03:25 AM It's usually worthwhile to buy a wiring harness and dashboard adapter to make the new equipment fit in the old car. That makes the job reasonably easy. -Joe- |
Subject: Tech: Upgrading old car CD player From: Bonzo3legs Date: 17 Aug 17 - 02:58 AM I recently upgraded the aging factory CD player on my 2003 Nissan Micra to a JVC KD-X241 digital music player costing a mere £45 plus Halfords fitting cost. This reads lossless FLAC as well as the usual wav (so CD quality!!!) and if you want it - mp3, from a memory stick, iphone or even a camera memory card in a usb adaptor. It was a very fiddly job to change the unit and well worth the £30 fitting charge. |
