Subject: BS: Maudie - go see it. From: Mr Red Date: 04 Sep 17 - 04:00 AM Trust me. IMDB entry for Maudie A moving story - three handkerchief job! Sometimes the casting is so right. Ethan Hawk does a good job of a difficult part but Sally Hawkins deserves an Oscar nomination at least. She is British, but you wouldn't spot that. The GF wanted to go and see it, saying Maudie (Maud Lewis) was a Canadian folk artist. I imagined a sort of early Ann Murry but it turned-out she was the Nova Scotian equivalent of Grandma Moses. (Painter). It was screened in the Sherborn, a little cinema in Gloucester run by one man, in an old Baptist (I think) chapel. The screen is the plaster wall at the back but it is just the kind of place a Folkie would want to support. |

The producer was on hand for discussion but I was so exhausted after a 3 film day that I just muttered to her, "Very well done" as I hobbled out of the boat house/theatre. |
