Subject: Lyr Req: Pancho Alvarez' Navegarei From: BDenz Date: 20 May 18 - 07:59 PM I speak Spanish, but not well enough to grasp the lyrics to this song (not to mention that he's Galician). Can anyone parse these lyrics? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yp0EDZXkkY Thanks in advance. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: GUEST,bdenz Date: 31 Jul 19 - 01:42 AM Monique -- I meant that I was trying to translate Galician with my Spanish and it was not working. I've got native-Spanish speaking friends who have translated as much as they could, but there are definitely some unique words. Still looking for a Galician speaker... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: BDenz Date: 19 Aug 21 - 08:32 PM Sorry it took me so long to see this, GUEST,Starship [if you're still around]. I tried messaging, his site, and email - all to no avail. Still hunting, in case there's anyone from Galicia (or who knows enough Galician to translate) who can translate. -Barb |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: Joe Offer Date: 20 Aug 21 - 05:43 AM Hmmm. Google translates the text that comes with the video quite well:
The album contains twelve new recordings inspired by not the great and immense Atlantic Ocean, with Galician music and another hitting the terrains that share this ocean made up of sons from North and South America, from African coasts, Portuguese days, Irish days and gives French Brittany, and so on. "Sonche Atlántico" contains author songs and songs with traditional melodies so that Pancho has a special emotional relationship, a bond created through the experiences of his travels, of people who live near the sea, as the myth of the end of the world or the other. Forza da natureza e da paisaxe Atlantic. There are also chee songs of humor and experiences of two towns and Galician villages, following the line of oral tradition that Pancho is an admirer and a beloved. Pancho Álvarez is one of the two most prominent of Galician music, unfolds or his particular profile as a musician using string instruments: violin, viola, viola da gamba, hurdy-gurdy, mandolin, bouzouki, electric and acoustic guitars, tenor guitar, ûd, Venezuelan cuatro e low. In addition, he plays a concertina, or accordion and percussion, and composer, arranxador, great connoisseur of folklore and tradition of Galician music, he was a member of Matto Congrio, Na Lúa, and a stable musician of Carlos Núñez's band, who would have a lot of money for everything or world. Engraved or mixed by Pancho Álvarez in a creative process logo, or album and froito do intense work in search of his own that shows the forte musical personality of this Galician artist. We choose with pracer these great and sinxelas author songs. The song is very intriguing. I hope somebody comes up with the lyrics - but if Monique can't come through with anything, I think we're stuck. -Joe- Another recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0rFZrXTPrA |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: Monique Date: 20 Aug 21 - 12:04 PM I've done more searches this morning to no avail, even with pieces of the lyrics I can understand (Galician is somewhere in between Spanish and Portuguese). The song begins with "Navegarei ao fin do mar [? verb in future tense, sounds more or less like "abrigarei"] unha travesía, a favor do vento, contra o vento, navegando vivirei, [?] marineiro é (?] meu corazón... [...] este corazón marino quere chegar ao final..." This should normally be enough to find any lyrics that would include this words. It's not. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: BDenz Date: 21 Aug 21 - 05:01 PM Thanks, Joe and Monique. I've sent him email and on his FB page - to no avail. I know he WAS touring before pandemic - mostly with arlos Nunes. I have much of the lyrics transcribed by an Ecuadorian friend, but as you say, Galician is a mix of 2 languages and not simple. But maybe these will help. [Attempted translation, tho I'd be happy with just the Galician words intact]. I will sail to the end of the sea ___? With the wind, sailing Wind against wind, sailing I will live Sailing is in my heart Doesn’t fit ___? Is not held prisoner __? The ocean Where it is born marks its pathways Take me away, ocean, drag me away, sea This sailor’s heart wants to arrive at the end At the end of the world there is a ___? It’s called freedom (?? Not sure about this line) I will cross the ocean, I will bring (?) Sailing, Sailing, being a sailor I will live Heart __? Animal that ___? Black That goes hidden inside Adventurous heart You call for me __ That wants to leave You are blind to the call of the sea Ocean, mineral, vegetable Sailing, being a sailor I will live …. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Navegarei (Pancho Alvarez) From: GUEST,Stephen Date: 22 Aug 21 - 02:27 AM You may have more success seeking help from Portuguese speakers as Galician is not ‘a mix of 2 languages’, it is a sister language to Portuguese, both languages descended from Medieval Portuguese. |
