Subject: BS: What to do with unwanted gift voucher. From: DMcG Date: 16 Jun 18 - 02:26 PM I've got an interesting little problem with the NHS. I have just completed a year as a participant in a research project and as a "thank you" they have given me a £10 gift voucher. I don't want it. I would have preferred it if the NHS kept the money. I was aware there was some token payment but there was no opportunity early on to say I didn't want it but had naively assumed I could refuse it when they handed it over. But they had already spent the money on the voucher, so refusing it doesn't save the NHS any money. In any case, I participated because I thought the research worth while, not for money. I could perhaps give them £10 cash somehow. But I imagine the staff costs of handling it would be more than £10. There are charities, of course, which could take the money efficiently, but that doesn't actually put in the NHS as such. So: any ideas how I could get as much as possible of it back where it came from? |

They fund-raise for the children, and the voucher could go into a raffle. Or could you ask your local doctors' surgery if they have a fund for anything that would like the voucher (say for a tombola) It's very generous of you DMcG to want to put this back into the NHS! |

Subject: RE: BS: What to do with unwanted gift voucher. From: Senoufou Date: 17 Jun 18 - 04:43 AM My lovely window cleaner Andy came round last week and told me he had entered a big Draw for a cancer charity. He'd actually won the second prize, a week in a villa in southern Spain. Sadly, his wife couldn't get that date off work, so he gave the voucher to his assistant, Paddy (also a very nice chap) Paddy went with a group of friends (the villa sleeps twelve!) and posted £150 through Andy's door as a thank you. Then Andy told me he'd put the £150 pounds into the charity funds! Wasn't that a lovely gesture? His wife had been successfully treated for cancer a few years ago, and Andy wanted to 'pay it back'. |
