Subject: Obit: Charles Krauthammer (1950-2018) opiner From: robomatic Date: 24 Jun 18 - 10:04 PM A co-worker loaned me Mr. Krauthammer's book, "Things That Matter" a few years ago, and I was impressed by the cogency of his arguments and the clarity of his writing, and that in spite of this I disagreed with most of his arguments. But this made him valuable to me in helping me form many of my opinions in the light of his reasoning. I was also unaware until then of his long term paralysis, which had never been apparent to me in his various on-air appearances. In his lifetime he was trained and worked in psychiatry, worked for the Carter administration, and developed into a political commentator for The Washington Post and later for FOX owned media outlets. I am bringing him up at this time in honor of his reasoned and civilized discourse, reminiscent of William F. Buckley. Reasoned discourse amid profound disagreement is a requirement in democratic societies, and many are endangered in this era. |

He's clever, insightful, and downright funny in this article: https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/08/trump-presidency-tests-institutions-guardrails-hold/. Here's another good one: https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/06/donald-trump-government-by-id-damaging-presidency/ One more: https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/07/donald-trump-jeff-sessions-attack-political-consequences/ -Joe- |
