Subject: BS: Medieval Personality: new webpage From: keberoxu Date: 02 Aug 18 - 04:49 PM Mudcat has a closed thread called Medieval Personality. A personality test was linked to, in that thread's OP. The thread was sustained by those who took the personality test. The test, in fact, still exists. However the old link doesn't do the job, because the company changed its website around. So here is where you go, today, to find The Personal Preference Profile Test. Medieval Personality, new link I found this test embarrassingly challenging, because I had such a hard time making up my mind and making choices. For me some of the choices were clear, and some were all the same to me. I took the test once, looked at the results -- no, I'm not gonna admit which one -- and said, Ohmigod, this is what other people have expected me to do, and when I tried to do it, I f***** up big-time and I'm not doing that any more! My blessings to those fellow Mudcatters for whom the test, and its outcome, were clear and direct. Me, I have to clear my head and then ... take the test again. And see about disregarding other people's expectations that I have guiltily absorbed into my point of view. (People-Pleaser? What is medieval for People-Pleaser?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Aug 18 - 06:07 PM Very interesting, but they want my name and email so I ain't doing it, thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Rapparee Date: 02 Aug 18 - 09:23 PM Je suis un chevailer blanc. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Raedwulf Date: 03 Aug 18 - 12:25 AM Steve - you could, of course, just enter some random name & email, but frankly I wouldn't bother because the test is, as so often, complete & utter bollocks! It's got nothing whatsoever to do with anything medieval; it's just some pretentious claptrap written by some pretentious training company with a bloody daft name. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Steve Shaw Date: 03 Aug 18 - 07:58 AM Whatever you say. I never get past that request for my details whatever it is I'm trying to look up, whether it's the cost of life insurance or looking up something someone's told me about on Facebook, etc. Not interested! |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Raedwulf Date: 03 Aug 18 - 12:59 PM I tend to take the same attitude, mate! But you can always enter your name as Fred & your email fred@hotmail.com. If there's a genuine Fred, I dread to think how much garbage winds up in his Inbox! ;-) (Not that I do it more than, ooooo, once a year, but if others do the same...) |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 03 Aug 18 - 01:23 PM Quite a lot of these 'click bait' things only send the results to your email address. So if you give a false one, you'll never know the outcome. There seem to be dozens of these quizzes. 'Which vegetable are you?' 'Which country represents your character?' 'What animal are you?' etc. I bet loads of those cookie things get sent to your computer while you're doing the quizzes. But as keberoxu says, they do challenge your thinking and decision-making. (I expect I'm a spud, a sloth and a Tongan... and probably a common serf medieval-wise!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Raedwulf Date: 03 Aug 18 - 02:39 PM Sen - a serf you might be, but anything less than uncommon, you are most definitely not! (If in doubt, ask hubby, he'll tell you I'm right...) ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 03 Aug 18 - 03:22 PM Hee hee, thank you Raedwulf! He'd have a huge laugh answering that one... :) I've just done the quiz using a false name and a made-up email address. It turns out I'm a Black Knight. But the description says I want to win, am manipulative and a bit ruthless. A fighter! I don't believe I'm like that at all. Far too lazy for all that stuff. And my horse would buckle under my weight, the poor thing. I could have a toasted crumpet as my Coat of Arms though. Hmmm.... I think the site is a job consultancy firm which one pays to find the right job. I don't think they'd be interested in old retired ladies anyway. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Raedwulf Date: 03 Aug 18 - 03:35 PM Yes, I got the black knight too. Winning is fun (for any given value of 'win'), but it's not the point. It's a load of pretentious cobblers aimed at suckers, frankly. If I felt the need to beef up my skills... I'd avoid them like the plague having seen that quiz. But, then, they're based in Hoooostarn, Texaaaaarse…. If Diplodocus Trumposaurus was into training companies, he would own this mob. Need I say more? l-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 03 Aug 18 - 03:41 PM Diplodocus Trumposaurus!! Hahahaaa! |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: keberoxu Date: 04 Aug 18 - 01:34 PM Of COURSE Rapparee is a White Knight! My experience in doing it was that I got the test results right there after doing it online, and they were not sent to my e-mail -- in fact this site has sent no e-mail since. There are twelve personality types total. There is a quick and dirty way to see them all. That website has got a store, where they sell thirteen coffee mug types. One for the whole kingdom shtick, and then a coffee mug for each of the twelve types; each mug has got a sound-bite description of its assigned character. The people who do the dirty work in this system have personality/character names like Merchant, Engineer (skilled craftsman?), and Doctor (healer or medic). |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Raedwulf Date: 04 Aug 18 - 02:01 PM "That website has got a store, where they sell thirteen coffee mug types." - there you have it, Keb, there you have it. Alas for your enthusiasm, this isn't a test that has any grounding in history, in reality; in fact, in anything except commerciality. One way or another, they're trying to swindle* you out of a few $$$ / £££!!! *I am almost certainly being unfair in saying "swindle". I don't doubt that they genuinely believe that who they are & what they try to do is to boost your career. But the name is pretentious & the test is utter nonsense! What the hell is "Harmonious work" anyway? :o |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Charmion Date: 05 Aug 18 - 05:38 PM I can't make the quiz go past question 6. It craps out with a server error. As for the compulsory name and address, I always tell these things I'm Fred C. Dobbs. Never fails. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 05 Aug 18 - 05:49 PM I put Lizzy Dripping, and the email address as Rasputin@yahoo.co.uk. It didn't seem to mind. I can't see why it thinks I'm ruthless and want to win. My answers were all the kindly, caring choices. I was hoping I'd be a Healer or an Apothecary or something nice. Not a pushy Trump-like blooming knight! |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: keberoxu Date: 05 Aug 18 - 07:10 PM Eliza/Senoufou, I cannot imagine why you were not typed as a Shepherd, which is all about care-giving. Now, their "Doctor" which of course is no medieval "doctor" but more of a medic/healer, is actually a very pragmatic, cut-and-dried, down-to-earth personality which works hard and is a first-responder in crises. as to "Black" knight, perhaps your choices indicated rebellion against the status quo. I actually came out Shepherd and went "no no nooooo!" because although my emotions are intense and sympathetic, I'm no good at actually DOING Shepherd. Picture ME running after the bloody sheep? never ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Jon Freeman Date: 05 Aug 18 - 07:49 PM Tried it (with false email). I'm not convinced I'd answer the same to all questions another time as I may be thinking differently... but on that run, I came out as Doctor. |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 06 Aug 18 - 03:52 AM Oooh I'm jealous Jon! I might do it again later today, and choose the same options as I did last time, just to test if it's consistent. Strangely enough, after I completed the quiz, I had a shower of Spam arrive about job offers in my area. Although I used a false email address, maybe they have the technology for getting into one's details? |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Jon Freeman Date: 06 Aug 18 - 07:00 AM I doubt there is anything to fear on that site, Sen. I take it you do take the usual precautions, browser, operating system, antivirus up to date and avoid the more likely to be dodgy such as free hacks/cracks for otherwise paid for software sites? |
Subject: RE: BS: Medieval Personality, Redux From: Senoufou Date: 06 Aug 18 - 08:06 AM Ah, that's reassuring Jon. I do protect myself and my laptop. (Husband is quite techno-savvy thankfully) Maybe 'they' think it's time I got off my behind and did some work for a change? If so, I'm afraid they're going to be rather disappointed! |
