Just so people don't think Brexit is all I think about ...

On Sunday 30th it was my 40th wedding anniversary, so on the 29th we had a parry for around 70 people in an 1870s mansion, which was more or less abandoned for years but has recently been restored. We asked those guests who wanted to should dress 1870s style - stressing those who didnt want to need not - and had a themed afternoon tea followed by a collection of good quality cheeses. I had tried to commission a tune from Kathryn Tickell but it was very short notice and she had so many existing commitments it was not possible. so she suggested Amy Thatcher composed it and Kathryn would play on it - which she did and it was just as I'd hoped. Then we had also got an acting company to run a murder mystery for the period, using most of the house. Naturally, they were in period dress.

on the Sunday, we finished off in church, where all the hymns were ones from our wedding. And I sang the verses of "Ubi caritas" in a duet.

All rounded off with a meal of a dozen family and friends.

All of which explains why I have been comparatively quiet on Muscat for a while.

Warm wishes to anyone with a significant anniversary of any kind coming up soon.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs McG. We celebrated our 45th back in May and combined a party for that and other things in August. Had a lovely time but it wasn't half the party yours was! Well done for pulling all that together.

That sounds like the best wedding anniversary ever, DMcG. In ten years, you get to do it again!

Himself and I will celebrate our 20th on Wednesday. We got married on the Thanksgiving (Harvest Festival) weekend, not only because it meant a civilized six-month engagement but also because the church would already be decorated. The pile of pumpkins on the chancel steps, and the contradance required to avoid it, gave the occasion that special je ne sais quoi that every wedding needs.

"All rounded off with a meal of a dozen family and friends."

How did you manage to sufficiently tenderise all that human flesh in such a short time? :-)

The 21st of November will see my good lady and I sharing 40 years together, we've ONLY been married for 32 of those though.

Still, as far as I'm concerned, we'll be celebrating our 40th!

She is my rock, my best friend, the one person I can rely upon come what may. I consider myself a very lucky man.

We never got into large scale observances. Quite a few times, we booked various bed and breakfasts within a reasonable drive, often with a hot tub in the room, and we were lucky enough to have really enjoyable experiences each time. But our ninth anniversary still stands out. We went to St. Martin, which was out first comparable pleasure trip, and on our anniversary evening we had an excellent meal and then wound up alone on Orient Beach skinny dipping under a full moon.

On our 34th anniversary, I sat with the pastor at church planning her memorial service.

That is sad, frogprince. Whenever it was, my condolences and I hope you find solace in all the good memories.
