I recall a song with this title sung by some older string band.

This same tune (with basically the same title) is used for Irish barndance (Sliabh Luachra on Parade by Paul Deloughery).

This is not of much help here but with a title like that roseman, this song must be in the Blues sections.

I don't know the song, but suicide is really the only response (which would presumably happen naturally over time anyway, but who would wait around in such a desert?).

Hey Peter, let's go back to our house cleaning discussion. If there were no women in the world, in my experience, there would be no one to clean the bathroom.

*let's see if I can do this without sounding sanctimonious and smug*

~ahem~...I am quite male, and I never had any difficulty with sharing the bathroom cleaning tasks....or floor mopping...or diaper changing...etc...

(hmmm...reading back...nope, it does sound smug...tsk)

isn't it funny about stereotypes? They help us to explain our society, even as they fail to deal with the many exceptions.,,,(And what is the logical flaw in the statement:"The exception proves the rule;consequently, the more exceptions, the better the rule."?)

if there weren't any women in this world? Well, I wouldn't have a place to store my sox (or a need to store them). I wouldn't have his and hers toilets (ie., seat-up, seat-down). And I would only have to wash those dishes or cooking utensils that I was about to use ... on the other hand, life wouldn't be worth living!

If all the men on earth were like you guys, I would have found a good one to settle down with by now!

But remember those images from TV, (remember, it's that thing you looked at before you had a computer!) Like, "Bathroom bowl sure needs cleaning, hon!" and "My wife, I think I'll keep her." Some, no, a LOT of real males were the inspiration for those characters!!!

Now, if you want to counteract all that crap, make sure SHE never notices the bathroom bowl needs cleaning, and sing her Stan Rogers' "45 Years" every chance you get, and maybe she'll decide to keep YOU! And you won't have to go around with a sore wrist all the time! But maybe your index finger will suffer from repetitive motion syndrome!

Among other things, I'm a househusband. And among other things, I value that wonderful and special woman in my life for giving me the chance to raise my sons and know them in a way most fathers can never do. I worry most over how well they know their mother...until I see them together. Karen is VERY special and I'm lucky that SHE is in this world.

Of course, I also think Blake Clark has the right idea. The best way to get along is to learn the magic of two words---"You're right"......plus two more for good measure---"I'm sorry."......Seriously, that's one of the funniest routines I've ever seen!

from Alix Dobkin:

Chorus: If it wasn't for the women, women
We would not be living, living
We would not be joyful, singing
Loving and beloved, women.

If it wasn't for the women what would we do?
We wouldn't have art or crafts or music
We wouldn't have a home, we wouldn't have food
If it wasn't for the work of the women.

Chorus

If it wasn't for the women, what would we do?
We wouldn't have health or strength or beauty
We wouldn't have love, we wouldn't have truth
If it wasn't for the work of the women.

Chorus

The men are leading the women astray
But I say it's the women today
They smarter than the men in every way
That's Right! The women are smarter!Little boy sat by the road and cried
Old man passin' asked him why
He say "I can't do what the big boys do!"
Old man sat down and he cried too
That's right! The women are smarter!"

Rosebrook,

I love Alix's stuff, too. "The woman in your life" is an all time favorite of mine. I also like to hear men who aren't afraid to sing "The woman in your life is you". It's about nurturing and caring for yourself.

And while we're on the topic, who could forget Malvina Reynolds "We don't need the men"

We don't need the men. We don't need the men.

We don't need to have them round except for now and then.

They can come to see us when we need to move the piano.

Otherwise they can stay at home and yell at their tv programs.

We don't care about them. We can do without them.

They'll look cute in a bathing suit on a billboard in Tierra del Fuego!

So, men, if you want a woman in your life just cause otherwise your wrist gets sore, think about the above.

Mary

kat! You're just encouraging them!!! They don't get it! Here is an exerpt from the song:

And who knows more about your story, About your struggles in the world, And who cares more to bless your weary shoulders, than

The woman in your life, She's trying to come through A woman's voice with messages of A woman's feelings The woman in your life She can feel so easily She knows everything you do Because the woman in your life is you

And who is sure to give you courage, And who will surely make you strong, And who will bear all the joy that is coming to you, if not

The woman in your life, She's someone to pursue........

Can you see how that's speaking to the self-nurturing part of each person, male or female? How often is it that women confide in their girlfriends, their therapists, their mothers or sisters, etc, but men confide only in their wives or girlfriends? How many women feel like, in addition to taking care of their kids, they've got to take care of their husbands, too?

All right, by now you all think I'm a raving maniac who roasts men over the spit in my back yard, but that's not true. I DID think the last guy before kat was funny, although I would have some other interesting ideas about what an ambidextrous guy could do.... But I just don't know how many guys understand what I'm talking about. So tell me. Mary

Don't get married, girls

Written by Leon Rosselson. And the best version I've ever heard was by The Dubliners. Good advice too. Thank God you don't take it, or we'd be lost. Both lots of us.

Mary, most of them, here at the Mudcat, get it; they're just pulling their, umm...legs; or have their tongues in their cheeks.

Please be assured, I agree totally with the lyrics etc. that you have posted. I came to the Mudcat blazing as a righteous womon and over the course of the past year have found most Male Mudders to be on our side. You might find a thread we had very interesting for the discussion. It was something about "The best thing a man can do for his children is love their mother." I think it was started by liam_devlin. If you are intersted and can't find it, let me know and I'll scare it up.

Now, I would continue by quoting one of my favourite bumper stickers and book collections:

WILD WOMEN DON'T GET THE BLUES!"
