Subject: BS: Worse new UK TV comedy so far in 2019 ? From: punkfolkrocker Date: 25 Jun 19 - 07:07 AM We stumbled upon "Tonight with Vladimir Putin" on BBC catch up and watched both short episodes... First episode out of curiosity, second episode dumstruck how shite it is - and too transfixed by it's sheer stupidity to swith off... I will be kind and not provide any links... If you must rush off as if to morbidly view a motorway pile up, watch it first before reading online reviews... You won't thank me for this... But we suffered, so why shouldn't you... |

It's just very unfortunate in the current negative anti-BBC climate, that someone at the BBC shot themselvrs in the foot by commisioning it... |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst new UK TV comedy so far in 2019 ? From: Mr Red Date: 27 Jun 19 - 02:38 AM TV is mass entertainment. It takes all sorts and with the plethora of channels there are enough repeats so you can always catch-up from broadcast fodder, or encounter dumbed-down crap. "More channels less choice" was the watch-cry and ...................... well look for yourself. What happened to the good old days when we had Crossroads and Compact and the Grove Family...............? I rest my badly constructed case! |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst new UK TV comedy so far in 2019 ? From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 30 Jun 19 - 04:53 AM I need to look through my Freeview guide and find out what appalling new comedies I haven't watched. |

Subject: RE: BS: Worst new UK TV comedy so far in 2019 ? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 03 Jul 19 - 08:00 PM I suppose the new puritanism is to blame. The PC thing has gone to ridiculous lengths in the world of entertainment. Was it Cromwell who tried to ban Christmas? It has that sort of feel to it. Observationnal comedy is all very well if you are gifted with powers of original observation and an solid technique in stagecraft and performance. Thers nowhere much for people to learn the craft. the traddies took it as a perdsonal affront when the folk clubs were used briefly for that purpose. And the unanimity that Brexiters are all wankers seems to go down well in right-on comedy clubs - but it bores the bollocks off the general population. And its not really original at this point. the trouble is you need to be a bit of a fuck up like Lenny bruce, or Tony Hancock to have that burst of originality. And it does come only in bursts - otherwise you end up like Billy Connolly doing Stan Boardman's not very funny nit nurse routine. Its not something that just sustains like being an actor or a singer. Even the greatest comedians know that they can't take their bucket to well indefinitely. comedy is a rare and wonderful gift to us all. but its a delicate flower. As Richard III said - weight it with the grossness of the age. that's why its all but disappeared. |
