Subject: BS: Grexit From: Mr Red Date: 04 Mar 20 - 11:23 AM Are there lessons for the UK here? Grexit |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Iains Date: 04 Mar 20 - 01:25 PM With a population of 56000 there was nothing to get too worked up about. Today it could be a bit more of a battle because of rare earths. Going green cannot occur without them and control is the name of the game. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-25421967 |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Rapparee Date: 05 Mar 20 - 02:40 AM Is the lesson that all of the UK glaciers will melt? |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Iains Date: 05 Mar 20 - 03:22 AM The lesson is that the case of Greenland does not offer any lesson. When Greenland withdrew in 1985 the argument was over fishing rights. Mineral wealth was not on the radar. Should the process be occurring today I suspect the struggle to leave would be much harder for reasons stated above. Also Greenland physiographically a part of the continent of North America |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Mr Red Date: 05 Mar 20 - 05:01 AM The lesson is that the case of Greenland does not offer any lesson. Some people just never learn. Incapable. We should pity them. There will be lessons, you have to go looking. There will be nuggets. If only 1% of the lessons are relevant they can be useful if you care to search. But then some Priti idiotic people think 52% reads the same as 100%. And as for glaciers, only bagged-up in supermarkets, but we do have a rather large tip of an iceberg where some haven't spotted the hidden 80% or that it is not at all positive. |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Iains Date: 05 Mar 20 - 10:47 AM . But then some Priti idiotic people think 52% reads the same as 100%. As far as elections are concerned 52% is the same as 100% when it comes to acting on results. You do not partially win elections despite the protestations of the left. Take for example the UK referendum to leave the UK Leave 17,410,742 51.89% Remain 16,141,241 48.11% 16,141,242 would have been sufficient to win. |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Mr Red Date: 06 Mar 20 - 03:06 AM Bullseye |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: The Sandman Date: 06 Mar 20 - 03:41 AM 51 .89 per cent not 52per cent, then of courese we have all the people who did not vote , perhaps voting should be compulsory |
Subject: RE: BS: Grexit From: Nigel Parsons Date: 06 Mar 20 - 08:38 PM Grexit: Normally accepted as referring to a Greek exit from the EU. Prior to this thread I have not seen the term used to relate to the exit of Greenland from the EU. The thread seems to be being used to compare Brexit (the UK exit from the EU) with the historic Greenland exit. I understood there was only one UK politics discussion allowed. It's probably time this thread was closed. |
