Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: DADGBE Date: 05 Aug 20 - 11:41 PM The root song here is Those Were The Days. Once upon a time we had a culture Full of lots of good, fun things to do My favorite was singing songs together Now that’s gone and left me feeling blue Those were the days my friends, we thought they’d never end We’d sing and dance forever and a day We’d live the life we choose, we’d sit and chat and schmoose For we were blind to what would come our way Lai, lai, lai, etc. Back then we loved to eat and drink together See the kids and say, “My, how they’ve grown!” We’re older now and certainly more frightened Having to spend our time alone Now we’re all afraid to get together Sacred that we’ll contact the Covid germs Our elders’ generation is now passing Reminding us we’ll all be food for worms |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: DADGBE Date: 05 Aug 20 - 11:37 PM This is based on Ry Cooder's version of Fiddlin' John Carson's The Farmer Is The Man Who Feeds Them All. We quarantined through springtime, through summer, and through fall But that virus worked the hardest and longest of us all It worked through nights and Sundays, it worked each holiday It settled down among us and never went away When that virus came to town, it knocked us all right down Oh, that Covid-19 could get us all If you’ll only look and see, I know you will agree That the virus could really get us all The virus is the one, just look at what it’s done That virus is the one to get us all It gets us where we breathe, we can’t get no relief That virus is the one to kill us all The first few started coughing, then they couldn’t catch their breath To the hospitals they went for help where many found their death Some folks did get better, but then some more fell ill Then the trickle turned to avalanche and then things went to hell They came in by the hundreds, by the thousands, and then more But not enough were tested so we didn’t know the score How many were infected, how do we stem the flow? The president decided that he didn’t want to know |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: Tattie Bogle Date: 18 Jun 20 - 03:19 PM Another Dominic Cummings song, by Grant Simpson from the band, North Sea Gas (which I did post on another thread): Cummings Went to Barnard Castle (Tune: Willie’s gane tae Melville Castle) Oh Cummings went to Barnard Castle Wife and son an' a' To test his eyes and tell some lies Whilst spreading Co-ro-na Cummings and these other toffs Can do just as they please Stay at home is not for them Let’s go spread some disease... The first day, well he felt quite rough Perhaps it's just the flu It can’t be this Covid 19 That's for the many, not the few The second day it was quite clear That something wasn't right "To hell with this, let's drive up north. Get away from all this shite." He grabbed his wife, his son as well And packed up his big car We must away and isolate But Durham is quite far The rules are there, we cannot go But to us, they don’t apply We're rich, we do just what we want If caught, we'll simply lie. Afterwards in London Town There was a big stramash An interview in Downing Street A bloody great car crash We'll blame the press, we'll blame the plebs We'll fight them, wait and see And if they still won't go away I'll bribe the BBC! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: The Doctor Date: 14 Jun 20 - 06:07 AM A song that I was going to call 'Cummings and Goings', but that might be too pointed, so I'll just call it 21st Century Broadside Ballad. 'Twas on a Monday morning, when I beheld my darling, She really looked alarming and she had a high degree. She looked so pale and weary, so I thought I'd best say cheerio. Dashing along the motorway to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Tuesday morning, when I beheld my darling, She looked a little better so I thought I would go home. She still looked pale and weary-o, but nothing like as bleary-o. Dashing along the motorway to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Wednesday morning, I felt an idea forming, We'd go and see the family, it's just a little trip. We'd go and have a heart to heart, albeit from six feet apart. Dashing along the motorway to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Thursday morning, just as the day was dawning, The papers brought a warning that all was not OK. They said I should have stayed at home, and left my family alone. Dashing along the motorway to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Friday morning I spoke unto my darling And said we should be going home if I could see to drive. I thought a local trip was best to see if I would pass the test. Dashing along the 688 to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Saturday evening, as through the traffic weaving, I thought we'd make it home for tea if we could just press on. But journalists were everywhere, it really wasn't very fair. Crawling along the London streets to drive my cares away. 'Twas on a Sunday morning I went into the garden And told them why I'd done it but they really weren't impressed. And so I left them to it, for I certainly don't rue it. Helping to run the government just drives my cares away. (Tune: Dashing away with the smoothing iron) Hopefully the relevance has not entirely passed. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: GUEST,Jonathan Talbot Date: 26 May 20 - 06:19 PM The Streets of Manhattan (Sing to the tune of “The Streets of Laredo” or the modified melody recorded by Lynette Hensley) 1. One morning while walking the streets of Manhattan, The season was spring and the weather was fair. I encountered a woman in a white linen lab coat, Sweating with fever and gasping for air. 2. “You can see by my outfit that I am a doctor,” These words she did say with a tear in her eye. “Please keep your distance but stay here beside me For I’ve got the virus and I know I will die.” 3. “Please say goodbye to my husband and children, To my friends and companions, and also my folks. Tell them that someone - that someone was lying When he said the virus was only a hoax – yes…” 4. “The President told us we need not be fearful His advisors stood ‘round him and nodded their heads, But we ran out of masks for the doctors and nurses, and we ran out of gowns and we ran out of beds.” 5. “Throughout our country the governors pleaded, ’Please send us supplies, we can’t fight this alone.’” “The reply from a White House devoid of compassion was ’I’m not your shipping clerk, you’re on your own.’” 6. “The CDC told us ’reuse your equipment…’” “They said it was safe, but I didn’t agree. Still l had to do what I could for each patient, and the one I could not do the best for was me.” 7. Think of me kindly and comfort my family And promise you’ll tell them, ‘cause I don’t have long. That these are the words that I want on my tombstone: "'She did what was right and she knew what was wrong.’” 8. Keeping my distance, I dialed nine-eleven But before they could get there – she passed away. And she wasn’t alone, there were more than eight hundred Who died in Manhattan from the virus that day. 9. One morning while walking the streets of Manhattan, The season was spring and the weather was fair. I encountered a woman in a white linen lab coat, Sweating with fever and gasping for air. Subject: ADD: Ray Frank Coronavirus Song From: Joe Offer Date: 06 May 20 - 07:19 PM Here's a good one, written and posted by Ray Frank (DADGBE) This came to me today in a fit of either divine inspiration or something else. If you don’t recognize the tune, look up Woody Guthrie’s So Long It’s Been Good To Know Ya. Anybody want to use it, go ahead. If y’all want too pay something, send toilet paper. TITLE (Ray Frank) Well, the covid hit and it hit like thunder It dusted us over, put us six feet under, It blocked out our jobs and ended our fun And straight for home all the people did run
So long it’s been good to know ya So long, it’s been good to know ya This nasty old covid is getting me down And I want to be drifting along We stayed in our houses, we sealed up the cracks We wore masks and gloves, stuffed our ears with wax We blamed the Chinese, we blamed Democrats And those covidiot protesters sure have our backs The churches were full, the churches were packed And that dirty old covid made such an attack That the Blood of the Lamb didn’t give us no help In spite all that the preachers do yelp I wash my hands ‘til my skin starts to crack, I break out in cold sweat over sneezes and hacks, I can’t get no nookie, I can’t get no hug I’m just too afraid of that corona bug We can’t wipe our asses, we can’t get no food, The president tells us that everything’s good, He says he’s got it all under control But somehow, I don’t seem to trust him at all |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Apr 20 - 12:38 AM David Ingerson sang this tonight. I hope he'll come and clean it up Tune: Lanigan's Ball In the town of Wuhan some germs from an animal made a big leap and infected a few, nobody thought it would be a pandemic and now the whole world is in a hullabaloo. It didn't take long for the germs to go global in planes and trains and cruises by sea. Now locked in our homes and trying to stay sober we can't even watch the live sports on TV. Six long months in Isolation, six long months doing nothing at all, six long months in isolation this lockdown is driving me up the wall. I tried to go out got sent back in again. I went out again straight back in again. Sick to death of the social distancing finish the lockdown for once and for all. The experts say keep two meters distance and never to gather in couples and groups, and eating at home is a feckin disaster I’m fat as a fool eating pasta and soups. Now in the UK the virus was active and got the Prime Minister in number 10, I hope Boris Johnson recovers completely so that we can call him a dickhead again. Six long months in isolation six long months without toilet roll. I wish to God I had constipation because I have nothing for wiping me hole. I tried to go out got sent back in again. I went out again straight back in again. Sick to death of the social distancing finish the lockdown for once and for all. Now Trump took it lightly there's no need to panic we’re under control sure tis only a flu he finally did what he promised the voters America first in the infections too. Three long years with Trump as president three long years doing nothing at all talking shite and blaming China while Mexico begs him to finish the wall. I tried to go out got sent back in again. I went out again straight back in again. Sick to death of the social distancing finish the lockdown for once and for all. The end is in sight and the curve it is flattening lifting the lockdown is yet to be seen, washing your hands and staying at home is the only solution for COVID 19. Six long months in isolation the planet has never looked greener before but back to the grind to pay off the mortgage. The world just won't be the same anymore. |

Should I spare young ones, old, and the sick?” But they all told me – “No”. Chorus: Kill the lot, the lot Before there’s a vaccine shot Though you think it’s cruel, it’s not Kill the lot, the lot! If they are young and doing well Soon they’ll have seen as older ones fell, That left without them life would be hell – Better to kill the lot. If they are old, their time is done They’ve had their chances, time in the sun, Now they can give us young bugs some fun – Better to kill the lot. Subject: RE: new Coronavirus Songs From: Felipa Date: 07 Apr 20 - 05:54 PM I've come across two newly composed Corona virus songs in Irish. One is a translation of a new song in English, the other is set to the tune of Téir abhaile riú and you can find those lyrics at the Mudcat thread Teir Abhaile Riú or on youtube as "Fan sa bhaile riú". The other song doesn't fit the traditional/folk mode but it comes with a challenge to you to translate into other languages: "Brí Carr Music Well, because the message shared in our school Covid-19 song, 'Our song of hope' has grabbed the nation, and it's simplicity has taken us all by complete surprise, we are inviting children and schools from every corner of the world to create their own language version of Our Song Of Hope to share their own art and home-school/#StayAtHome ideas to YouTube and everywhere online. Our Song Of Hope will be available for download on Spotify/iTunes/Amazon and all the usual online music platforms from Fri. 10th April. The backing track to the song is available to whoever wishes to take up the challenge worldwide. Simply contact bricarrmusic@yahoo.com and we will happily forward the English lyrics for you to translate as well as the original backing track to your school/music group/co-ordinator as well as a 'how to record at home' instructions sheet to encourage the children to productively engage in our very positive project. We will kickstart the challenge by uploading this, our native language version, as Gaeilge.. 'Ámhrán Dúchais', by the children of Lurgybrack National School, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, feat. Hannah NicPhaidín (An t-Oireachtas Winner U-15), arranged by ValleyMusic Music Studio, Ballybofey, written by myself, Brí Carr. Thanks to Ava and Cassie for designing the crest, to Nicolette Culloo for the cover design and Colm Ferriter for his invaluable help with the translation. We also hope that this further inspires other schools in Ireland will get in touch with us . We were delighted to receive both musical and vocal versions, thank you for crediting Lurgybrack School with your fantastic efforts. We hope to calm the minds, hearts and experiences of all children during these worrying times, and I want to personally thank each and every one of our wee superstars who worked tirelessly to create this memorable work. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: Donuel Date: 06 Apr 20 - 03:13 PM Make my grave in the Trump Hotel, Not a lowly plain, or a lofty hill; Put it at the end of the escaltor, On the doorstep of the great imitator . Engrave Trump lies around my grave. Like Arlington make sure that I stay His shadow above my silent tomb Would make it a place of fear & gloom. I could rest in the noise of Fifth Avenue On my birthday you can have free barbecue. Try to manage a shriek of wild despair Like a million curses in NY air. I could not sleep if Trump went free His dieing in prison is reason for glee Such a cruel narcissist unfeeling beast should be punished for his hateful beliefs. Let my grave in the Trump Hotel help remind how the US was fired, attacked by virus and died One day Trump hotels will be demolished. Maybe men like Trump will be abolished We are now almost completely uninsured No Obama care or employer added insurence Little life saving equipment can be procurred If you're old with conditions death is assured I ask no monument, proud and high, To arrest the gaze of the passers-by; All that my yearning spirit craves, Is that the unfiltered truth stays. |

Subject: RE: Coronavirus Songs From: GUEST,Felipa Date: 02 Apr 20 - 05:19 PM The classification isn't being consistently adhered to, but I would say that this thread is mainly for newly composed songs and parodies; while the Songs for the Apocalypse discussion thread is mainly for older songs which are suitable to be sung in reference to the present pandemic crisis. The number of relevent parodies posted on youtube is incredible. Parodies of Bomhemian Rhapsody, Over the Rainbow, Do re mi (Sound of Music, not Guthrie). Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Coronavirus Songs From: GUEST,Greg F. Date: 26 Mar 20 - 01:42 PM Yes, these songs are all very amusing the face of TrumPublican lies, disnformation, refusal & denial of reality and scientific fact which will result in the deaths of countless persons. May I suggest Patrick Sky's "Dance Of Death"? which also speaks to the wider context of Trump's Cult & their Covid 19 bullshit - 'a clock that's shaken hard enough....' For thet matter Pat's "Songs That Made America (AmeriKKKa?) Famous is worth a re-listen. Shows ya how far we've come in more than half a century. |
