Subject: Donald Caird's Come Again From: Bill D Date: 04 Jan 00 - 08:57 PM just sent midi of this to Alison...trying to learn Noteworthy and post some of the contents of an old Scottish songbook edited by George Farquhar Graham. As I told alison, I now have a digital camera capable of putting up a readable text and showing the actual pages of the book, so perhaps I'll post the table of contents of the book and take requests...(yes,,,this was a wierd first choice..it is just where the book fell open...) Donald Caird's Come Again..(Sir Walter Scott)..
Donald Caird's1 come again!
Donald Caird's come again!
Donald Caird's come again!
Donald Caird's come again!
Donald Caird's come again!
1. Caird or Ceard..tinker (note says the 'original' tune was "no means a good specimen of Highland melody, while the harmonic arrangement given to it is as barbarous as possible"...so a tune based on something by Handel was substituted...)

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Donald Caird's Come Again From: weepiper Date: 25 Sep 02 - 05:43 PM I have a photocopy of a tune called 'Malcolm Kaird's Come Again - Bagpipe way' which I think was written out from the Skene (18th century?) Manuscript. I don't have it to hand but I wonder if it fits the words.... I could get my dad to abc it if anyone's interested? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Donald Caird's Come Again From: MMario Date: 25 Sep 02 - 07:16 PM I'd be interested. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Donald Caird's Come Again From: weepiper Date: 27 Sep 02 - 09:49 AM Here we go... I've spoken to my dad (he's Phil Taylor who wrote Barfly, an abc reader for Macs) and he gave me a link to Jack Campin's site, he's the one who originally sent him the tunes. The abc for 'Malcome Kaird's Come Again' is on this page it's the second of the tunes there. Having looked at it, some of it does indeed fit the words - there's ten parts though! Seems like a Northumbrian pipe tune in shape. |
