Head on the chopping block time but I am going to draw a parallel with WW1. Which in many ways altered the priorities of ordinary people. A land fit for heroes. And a pandemic.

So, what happened then was a slow turmoil in the workplace (General Strike in the UK, Germany saddled with reparation - which was never actually paid in full, etc). Followed by a euphoria of hope and speculation beyond that which the real world supported.

Then the chickens come home to roost with the Wall St crash at the 10 year point.

That is what I am predicting, we will find a vaccine, we will be so glad, and an era of excitment & fun will see women's skirts get shorter. Then while we weren't looking, something that could be (and is!) predicted will take us by surprise.

see yous all in 2030 and tell me I am wrong.....................Please!

could I be alluding to the rise and rise of AI?

I suspect it will drag on and on. No vaccine or drug treatment seems to be more than a blue-sky hope, and there is no evidence that getting the virus gives you lasting immunity. Instead, any episode of Covid will damage the body to a greater or lesser extent and make you less able to resist the next exposure. With no alternative strategy to isolation, societies will get more and more atomized; the only places not to experience drastic social transformation will be those like New Zealand and Vietnam that have definitively beaten it and can pull up the drawbridge.

It should take 10 years to financially heal from pandemic hardships.
But every hurricane, flood and wild fire will delay healing.

My Nostrodamus days are over. 20 years ago you might see my posts regarding pole shifts, pandemics, civil war, terrorism distractions and global warming warnings. On the bright side there will be advancements in physics regarding understanding the energy potentials of space itself. This however makes everything we have built to prevent access obsolete such as vaults bunkers and buildings. By adding one more dimension one could go in time and direction that is inconceivable today. I can not imagine the current human being able to handle this phenomena respondsibly.

This much I know, you are on your own and will owe your survival to the kindness of strangers.

I am talking 10 years not 10 days! NZ has a woman with brains in charge, but is heading to winter and I predict a second wave, however small**. But that is still only 10 week's worth. 10 years is long is a long time in viral politics.

** my family there will tell me

Post Covid is combined with an attempted authoritarian take over of the US that may one day succeed. In which case I will not go to a Target or anyplace that has armed soldiers doing 'security'.

The airport is already bristling with assault rifles.

Typical divergence between England and Scotland in how testing is managed. According to FB posts I've seen, the English system (controlled by US private companies) is horrendous security theatre, with people getting their phones confiscated on suspicion of taking a photo of the premises and the whole procedure made to feel like a criminal interrogation. In Scotland it's run by the NHS but staffed on the frontline by soldiers in uniform.   I went past the testing station near here - the soldiers were sitting around the hospital car park, unarmed, each one masked and at a desk under a gazebo, waiting for customers (I didn't see any). All completely friendly and I couldn't imagine them objecting to being photographed. I went right past them and nobody asked who I was.

Well, what is emerging is what I alluded to in the OP. We are far too focused on the immediate aftermath to look to the 10 year scenario.

History teaches us that we don't learn anything from history!

The NHS and the British Army in partnership to run a public health program -- genius! Especially in Scotland, where military service is very much a thing and every family tree includes whole battalions.

According to FB posts I've seen, ......

... so, it must be true.

Both my son and daughter work in a care home in England and have been tested twice by request of their employer. They booked their tests on-line and were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The results were available within two days. Don't believe everything you read on Facebook.

picking my way through the cans and pizza boxes.

You would think COVID-19 would focus the mind on extraneous virus vectors.

But no!

2050 is oft cited as a year to look to for all those seaside cities being flooded. UK has the Thames Barrier (because metrocentricity is king) and NY was flooded, so recently. Yea, Yea, storm surges, but THAT is flooding, and a foretaste of sea rises yet to come.

Ironically the Thames Barrier was given a 50 year life (of usefulness)! And? See you in 2040 then?

The Venice Barrier didn't prevent flooding this season!

All of which will loom larger than COVID and its imitators, because the cityplebs will expect the savvyrurals to give up their land to those that live on the edge at the moment.

As I always say, "science/technology will have answers, but we won't like them".

Mr. Red America has lost its stomach to fight or even deter Corona 19.
The anti mask crowd are becoming the anti vaccine movement.
With only 50 to 60 percent with vaccine immunity, the entire effort to 'burn out' the virus completely fails.
This puts the entire concept of a post covid 19 era in question.

at this time only 30% of Americans are against having a vaccine for various reasons. The pandemic is becoming secondary to rallies and protests. America is being rushed to 'reopen' and even to vote in person instead of a safer mail in ballot.
We are in what looks like full unconditional surrender.

Sorry Donuel, but Twitler is not out of the running either. He has God (but not necessarily God's children) on his side. And the other God in Russia. And pissing-off China only strengthens their hand, and motivation. And probably a covert Stephen K Bannon. Think Fake News & stealing elections.

The anti-vax movement does have a Darwinian bonus. And until there is a COVID vaccine not a factor in the short term.

Be afraid America, be very afraid. The UK are, for 4.3 years, at least .

Running scared will motivate Biden votes in the meantime but despite lieing and cheating and stealing, tweeter and chief will lose by 20 points.

Yea and I heard that the first time round. We are living in interesting times, don't forget.

My hope is with you, my fear is not.

New Outdoor sports with social distancing may become popular.
Like Interstate bowling for distance.
Mountainous States have an advantage over the Plain States.
