Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Mrrzy Date: 01 Dec 13 - 06:18 PM In order not to perpetuate myth-is-reality, I'm still trying to purge the terms god, damn, heaven and hell from my swearing. It's bloody difficult. Leaves you with forms of shit and fuck and "very" (besides bloody). I can't say godawful or jeeze louise or inchallah either. Not much is left, if you leave out profanity, besides sex and excrement. |

Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Ebbie Date: 01 Dec 13 - 03:07 PM I feel I must respond: This is not an attack on Liz. It is an attack, if you will, on her mouth, a commentary on what I consider a mistaken approach to efficacy. |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Big Al Whittle Date: 01 Dec 13 - 02:55 PM this is a personal attack on Liz. anyway mr greenwellies if you were getting all that much done why are we still being buggered left, right - backwards and forwards by the banking system. only this week we had the case of the RBS destabilising viable businesses in order to asset strip them. this was against the interests of England and its citizens. if this were wartime - they'd be shot as traitors. they deserve every swear word in the dictionary. |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Jeri Date: 30 Nov 13 - 07:38 PM I don't really care much about profanity. I swear sometimes, but I know who's listening and I don't make a habit of using a lot of it. It's like shouting. It Initially gets people's Attention, but if you do it a LOT, people tune you out or Just Avoid You. Nobody wants to be Constantly Prompted to FUCKING PAY THE FUCK ATTENTION!!! See - annoying. Especially given that I didn't really say anything. And may this thread that we dislike so much that we're posting to it to say so (sometimes several times), be ignored by those (other than us) and fade away. |

Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Ebbie Date: 29 Nov 13 - 10:09 PM I read it all, Bill- so here goes: I am of a generation/at a stage/brought up to think that foul language is rarely appropriate. Not so long ago at all, men did not use such language in front of women. Nowadays it is the WOMEN who use it most unblushingly. At this rate a few years from now we are going to have hordes of wrinkly and tattooed crones with filthy mouths on our streets, in our families and in nursing homes. Arrogance, ignorance and greed are worse, no question, but I do get most awfully tired of the rote-parroting words that some people think give their opinions more force and credence. Reminds me of the story of a newspaper shop where a reporter demonstrated himself to be fond of the adjective(?): very. His boss told him to go back and insert 'very' in front of every quality. 'Now take a good look at your story," he said. "Then go back and remove every single one of them." |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Bill D Date: 29 Nov 13 - 08:18 PM Good golly, my gracious, gee whillikers! Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 29 Nov 13 - 05:40 PM Well, Margaret, first off, I think your presumptive comment that most people who swear are men, is, to say the least... Secondly, the term, 'canonical spelling' frightened the shit out of,I can tell you...because it's one of those things wot only The Academics know about in the first place, 'cos we un-edukated, inadequately-socialized pillock peasants wouldn't know what a canonical spelling was in the first place, if we f*cking, fell....oh, sorry, I do beg your pardon, if we fucking well fell over it in the first place... I don't consider racist words to be swearing by the way, purely fuckingly racist... Swear words are great...and 4 years down the line from the start of this thread, I'm using them more than EVER before....I even used 'Fucking!' in the council offices of Torquay the other day, when telling them I wouldn't pay my fucking council tax, because it was fucking IMMORAL due to me being a Carer on a very low income who saves this country fucking £loadsa money every year... And, I told them that if they were more offended by the fact I'd said 'Fucking' to them, rather than the fact that many of their fellow humans couldn't even afford to feed themselves any longer, whilst they colluded in complicit evil, enabling The Fecking Sociopaths in charge to do what they were doing, including to the ill, elderly lady I'd just spoken to in their waiting room, whose benefits had been cut, as in STOPPED, six months back, leaving her only on the minimum Income Support and the generosity of family and friends..they should probably examine their souls! Viva Swearing! Viva La Revolucion! Fuck The Tories... Fuck The Bankers........ Fuck the Arrogance, the Ignorance AND the Greed! |

Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: GUEST,musket Date: 29 Nov 13 - 01:20 PM I've always liked Show of Hands. Mind you, that particular album is rather ranting and political. I thought The Arizona Smoke Review had grown up at first but this album puts an angle to their act they don't need as it polarises opinion, which commercially they don't need. At least that's my view. And I'm just a soft cunt. |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: GUEST,Margaret Date: 29 Nov 13 - 01:13 PM I'm coming late to the fair, and haven't struggled thru the whole thread, but thought this question "I would genuinely appreciate an answer to an important question concerning the use of 'c*nt' [not by me], & how it differs from my previous use of the same word in undisguised form, which I posted this morning at 08-05 a.m. It is a question asked in true search of academic enlightenment as to the distinction. " ...deserves a fair answer: Writing a presumptively offensive word such as "n*gg*r" or "c*nt" with asterisks or other punctuation in place of vowels shows that the writer is aware that it's a word that can give offence and is disclaiming any such intention. Using the canonical spelling leaves the writer open to the presumption that he (most often he) is, at minimum, an inadequately-socialised pillock. |

Can I recommend you look at some of her past threads. Loads of examples scattered all over the Mudcat threads on all sorts of subjects. That would give you a lot of evidence to support that theory." Good to see you're sticking to Joe's advice and not saying anything personal. Thank you so much.... Is there a swear word for obsessive little terds, does anyone know? And now, back to swearing.... |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: theleveller Date: 15 Dec 09 - 03:31 AM "People who swear a lot about something that makes them angry also get over their anger quicker and then think calmly...whereas those who keep it inside keep it bubbling unhealthily...just thought that um...scientific...thought on the matter might...or might not, interest you." Well, it seems to have some basis in truth. swearing boosts morale "all production was in the UK..." Yes but, unfortunately, Hunter went bankrupt. I must admit that I've worn Hunter wellies for years (always bought the 'seconds' from the local tack shop) and I still use a pair that I bought ages ago. I can't comment on the new ones but it would seem that making them in the UK wasn't a viable proposition for whatever reason. I once approached them about ideas for their marketing, which was dire, but they weren't interested - in fact, they were quite rude and arrogant. |

Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: GUEST,Elspeth Hart Date: 14 Dec 09 - 05:38 PM Re: Hunter Green Wellies yes...they based their success on these new brightly coloured wellies (that are most funky =) )...but some of us actually _need_ wellies and Hunter used to produce high quality ones using a unique method for extra water tightness _and_ all production was in the UK...They now charge the same prices but have moved production to...China I think...and they fall apart really quickly because they make them the same way as all the others and they're CRAP. Slightly irrelevant, I know, but really, I hate when this sort of a thing happens. Are we _trying_ to give all our industry away? And what happened to quality not quantity? And making a living instead being rich bastards? (hail tesco on that one =O ) |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: GUEST,Elspeth Hart Date: 14 Dec 09 - 05:23 PM You probably don't care...but swearing has been proved to have anesthetic and soothing qualities =) Women who swear during childbirth generally need meds. Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Stringsinger Date: 09 Dec 09 - 08:26 PM One of the most important gifts we have as speakers is that we can communicate. A wide use of any language is often the best way to do this. Cursing or swearing with imagination can sometimes be effective. Often, though, it's boring because of the repetitive use of certain words which are really not taboo any longer. Even the youngest kid has heard them and can often repeat them. A limited use of vocabulary makes communication less effective. In Holland, they've economized on curse words. There's one that seems to cover everything (appropriate when you hit your thumb with a hammer driving in a nail). I think it sounds something like "Khlutsuch". It has a guttural back-of-the-throat sound to it. |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Bill D Date: 09 Dec 09 - 01:29 PM ".. to which BillD responded with this ditty" ...and it sounds SO sweet to the tune Eric Darling and Ed McCurdy used. Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: GUEST,ruth sans cookie Date: 09 Dec 09 - 10:54 AM I'm sure I posted this earlier... cunny: relasted to coney, which is another word for rabbit? Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 09 Dec 09 - 05:54 AM No doubt MtheGM! Though as to 'cunt' (the word rather than female part, naturally scented or otherwise) I much prefer the more affectionate sounding 'cunny'. Which, as I observed on another thread, fittingly perhaps rhymes with honey: to which BillD responded with this ditty. Considering your prior sentiments, you will no doubt approve. My Mistress' Cunny D'Urfey's Pills to Purge Melancholy, 1719 My mistress is a hive of bees In yonder flowery Garden: To her they come with loaden thighs, To ease them of their burden. As under the bee-hive lieth the wax, And under the wax is honey, So under her waist her belly is placed - And under that, her cunny. My mistress is a mine of gold, Would that it were her pleasure To let me dig within her mould And roll among her treasure! As under the moss the mould doth lye, And under the mould is mony, So under her waist her belly is placed - And under that, her cunny. My mistress is a morn in May, Which drops of dew down stilleth: Where'er she goes to sport and play, The dew down sweetly trilleth. As under the sun the mist doth lye, So under the mist it is sunny, So under her waist her belly is placed - And under that, her cunny. My mistress is a pleasant spring, That yieldeth store of water sweet, That doth refresh each wither'd thing Lies trodden under feet. Her belly is both white and soft, And downy as any bunny, That many gallants wish full oft To play but with her cunny. My mistress hath the magick sprays, Of late she takes such wondrous pain That she can pleasing spirits raise, And also lay them down again. Such power hath my tripping doe, My pretty little bunny, That many would their lives forego, To play but with her cunny. |
Subject: RE: Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed & Foul Language From: MGM·Lion Date: 09 Dec 09 - 05:37 AM ===I'm not a big 'cunt' fan either TBH (and I'd disagree with MtheGM that it's equal in stregth to 'Turd', which one would use in most company!), it's not something that distresses me.=== Obviously room for differences of taste & opinion here, Crow Sister. Speaking for my own part, it's perhaps just that I hate the smell of turd but quite like the female-pudendum scent, which can act on me aphrodisiacially to the utmost - as I believe Nature to have intended... |
