Subject: BS: What animal is this? From: leeneia Date: 12 Mar 21 - 06:35 PM At the end of a long day, the DH and I like to get our exercise by watching a little golf on YouTube. At 2:33 on this video: golf video two animals that I have never seen before come across the green. What animals are they? |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 12 Mar 21 - 06:41 PM Mink, I think - which are wiping out native stoats in England. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: Jeri Date: 12 Mar 21 - 07:45 PM It looks like a banded mongoose. Definitely not a mink. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: Rapparee Date: 12 Mar 21 - 08:42 PM Not minks. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 12 Mar 21 - 10:01 PM Where in the world is "Nedbani" ?? |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 12 Mar 21 - 10:13 PM My bad! NEDBANK -- I misread the name. It's in South Africa. I didn't know that the mongoose was native to South Africa. November 14, 2019 Golf Digest |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: leeneia Date: 13 Mar 21 - 01:50 AM Thanks. What an extraordinary animal. I've heard of them, and I even read Riki Tiki Tavi long ago, but I had no idea they looked like that. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: Donuel Date: 13 Mar 21 - 06:31 AM I think Jeri is right. I first thought kotimundi |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 13 Mar 21 - 06:55 AM And I (now) agree...to be fair, the above post was after a very quick sleepy look at the video, just before midnight ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 24 Jan 22 - 05:15 PM Yes, guilty as charged, I am refreshing an old thread with a post about a different animal. Some of you may have seen this on network television news. Obviously the poor thing is suffering badly from mange (demodectic?). Dogs and coyotes are not THAT closely related ?? Sadly, nobody suspects wolf -- this is in the United States, where humans have largely succeeded in removing wolves entirely. wildlife sanctuary in Pennsylvania (Facebook page) |

Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: leeneia Date: 25 Jan 22 - 03:22 PM I've seen a lot of rescue videos, and I feel sure that if they just start feeding that animal, it will soon look like what it is - a dog. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 26 Jan 22 - 07:47 PM I agree that he is most likely a dog. Defensive he may be, but if he were truly feral, I believe he would seem and look quite different. Especially the eyes. Also, I have seen on occasion an animal that is half-coyote and half-dog. Their eyes are TOTALLY different and so is their demeanor, it's hard to explain, but it is really something OTHER. This is also said of wolves, with which I have no experience. Here is an update; no, they still don't have the DNA results back. Animal rescued in Fairfield (PA) Township |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 27 Jan 22 - 11:27 AM The wildlife rehab rescue place regrets to report that the fellow, whatever he is, escaped in the night. He literally chewed his way through a window seal and smashed through a window screen to get out. of course people are looking for his trail. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 28 Jan 22 - 07:13 PM Of course, the animal got away into the outdoors just before a blizzard hits . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 30 Jan 22 - 10:27 PM I gather that the Chupacabra is a mythical beast. There were mutterings of Chupacabra after people saw the rescue/sanctuary photographs online. Whatever, I would be really surprised, now that the creature has literally gotten THROUGH a window to freedom, if we ever see hide nor hair of it again. However, the rather forlorn-sounding rescue crew are still waiting for the results of that DNA test to come back. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: leeneia Date: 30 Jan 22 - 10:53 PM I've seen a YouTube video of a dog that resembled that thing, and when it was cured of skin disease and properly fed, it turned out to be a beautiful Husky. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 17 Feb 22 - 04:46 PM The emaciated escaped animal remains at large. And the DNA results came back from the lab to the wildlife rescue. Coyote, 100%. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: leeneia Date: 19 Feb 22 - 12:42 AM That settles that, then. Thanks keb. |
Subject: RE: BS: What animal is this? From: keberoxu Date: 21 Feb 22 - 08:54 PM So, now we have photographic evidence of what a mangy -- VERY mangy -- coyote looks like, and now the wildlife rescue knows firsthand what a captive coyote will do to break out of jail. Run free, coyote, wherever you are. |
