As a matter of interest Bonzo, can you tell me how much they charge for delivery?

I notice that Deliveroo drivers are going on strike, partly because they get often paid less than the legal minimum wage. I suspect exploitation on a large scale. A lot of the deliveries round here are made using the couriers' own cars...No blind eye here, eh, Bonzo?

No bags starting next month, Bonzo. You will have to bag your own on the doorstep.

Say between £3 and £5 for Morrisons and Tesco. The prices vary depending on day and time of day.

Our last few Morrison's deliveries have not come in bags. They have let me carry the crates to the kitchen to unload though.

Tesco (yes, we can use either, mostly depending on the availability of slots) don't allow crates inside but ours come with tray liners. I can lift these out and carry to the kitchen.

The Tesco way is a bit quicker but, either way, I can unload for the driver fairly swiftly.

Bonzo turns a blind eye, he emulates his hero Nelson." i see no ships " he wouldnt spot a china man.
Left-arm unorthodox spin, also known as slow left-arm wrist-spin, is a type of spin bowling in the sport of cricket. Left-arm unorthodox spin bowlers use wrist spin to spin the ball, and make it deviate, or 'turn' from left to right after pitching. ... The delivery was sometimes historically called a chinaman.
given Bonzos political position , i would have thought he would have welcomed movement from left to right.
how much are morrisons and tesco delivery people paid. Bonzo emulates johnson and the nhs workers in giving them praise, but woulsd you tip them bonzo or pay the drivers more

Average base pay is £9 per hour, Dick. Plus bonuses and discounted shopping.

Delivfery cost from Morrisons is between £2 and £7 depending when and where. We pay £5 per month for Tues-Thurs deliveries every week. If you are an Amazon Prime member you can get some Morrisons goods delivered next day and free.

So more than likely Morrisons lose money on most home deliveries. Here in Dover it looks like the deliveries are done from the local store. A member of staff has to fill the order and then the delivery is made. No way that delivery cost covers the extra charges.

The delivery charge not covering the extra costs is not the whole picture.
The business is still (presumably) making a profit on the goods that they are selling. Providing a delivery service, even if it is subsidised, may get them customers they would not otherwise have.
Most supermarkets seem to have an 'order value' at which delivery charges cease. Presumably, at this level the picking and delivery costs are more than paid for by the value (to the business) of the underlying sales, and the business still makes a profit on the whole transaction.

Had Iceland delivery a few times in lockdown. Some routine stuff and rest admittedly limited options but delivery always available. (no charge if £35 order)
Bags are a problem. Now have a pile in the garage. They won't take them back and they don't go in the recycling.

Also from Lockdown I now have a Milkman, glass bottles I rinse and return so less recycling.

I have no idea of delivery cost, it's irrelevant. Delivery of shopping in bags saved not only time, but also back strain and potential cost of osteopath!! Normally use Sainsbury's but site was down on Saturday.

All Morrisons deliveries are from local stores now, Rain Dog. Until a few months back Morrisons deliveries looked like Morrisons but were actualy fulfilled by Ocado from a number of depots nationwide. Most stores now do click and collect as well which does not incur a delivery charge. Another benefit to the customer, which must cost Morrisons money, is that if an item is substituted without mention they will refund the cost of the item and you still keep it. Substitutions that are listed are different as you do have to agree to the substition. If you don't, the driver takes it back. Guess that must cost too!

In LB of Croydon plastic bags go into general waste, but these Morrisons bags are sanitiser sprayed and will be used in small bins around the house.

Yeah I had read that they lose money on home deliveries. I imagine that those companies that fulfill orders from a special depot or dark store as they call them, would probably not lose as much.

It is like those companies who sell clothing. They lose on any returns that they have to deal with. The times we live in hey?

Bags are a problem. Now have a pile in the garage. They won't take them back and they don't go in the recycling.

Funnily enough, Fiascos and Painsbury's have bins to put them in, and are well used. In Stroud only it would seem. Famed for its alternativeness.
I once asked at Painsbury's in posh Bath where to put the bag the bananas came in, and went up and done the forecourt several times looking, and into the twee car park. All I found was a litter bin. So the assumption is, whatever we give for recycling at our two, is likely to be "disposed of" - not re-cycled. Chippenham similarly lacks such re-cycling when I go there for the festival.

Ironically, our local Coop have never had delivery, now Deliveroo are providing the service. Not that it is much use to me, how am I going to get exercise if I don't walk to the Coop? Or find my 10p out-of-date loaves? The ducks would go hungry!

Cardiff as well (at least in the larger stores). Tesco claim to have them in many stores: To help our customers recycle, we have recycling stations in many of our UK stores including front of store recycling for carrier bags. We have recently extended this particular service to allow films of the same material type (polyethylene) to be added, for example bread bags. A new logo has been introduced which can be found on bread bags and bags used for frozen products so our customers know what they can recycle at our stores.
