Planet Front Yard.

Today is our Planet Fitness Day. We go Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On those days we don't bust our buns, but we are exhausted when we come home. That is our goal. Being Old Folks in training, we don't do a lot of heavier physical work on those days, and it's impossible to keep up with the house and yard. We're going to take a day off once in awhile to work on the house and yard. Next time I'll work out at Planet Garage, and Donna can go to Planet closets. ?? Exercise is exercise. We are skipping Planet Couch. ??

For lunch we are going to our favorite of all favorite bookstores in Connecticut: Atticus Book Store. They also have a small restaurant where we love to have lunch. A good lunch and book browsing on the Green. It doesn't get any better than that.

We are not going to Planet Pizza.

For exercise on days when I don’t want to go outside, I do the Tour de Maison, like the Tour de France but no bicycle. Upstairs to the bedroom, along the hall to the library, then down two flights of stairs to the basement, back up again two flights to the bedroom, repeat until panting for breath. Then do it again two or five times between morning coffee and evening tot.

Exciting it’s not.

That sounds like a great idea, Charmion. My house is a ranch, so the stair climbing would be much more limited. I did buy a seated "Elliptical" a few months ago, and it is helpful. It's nothing like the eliptical. It's more like having a seated treadmill. :-) It's more for stretching the lower body, from hips to knees, thighs, calves and ankles.. We live in a good neighborhood for walking... very lovely and safe. Women go walking at night in my neighborhood without fear..

I've spent the morning working on the lawn, weed whacking and cleaning half of the driveway. I'm taking Donna out for lunch, and I will resume after we get back (with generous breaks.)

I mowed the front and back lawns on Saturday, ahead of cataract surgery. I was hoping the grass would stay looking mowed during the next 10 days because I'm not supposed to lift or bend over much and I assume my physician includes pushing a mower in that prohibition. We've had a lot of rain and it's already a jungle out there, with six more days before I'm allowed to mow.

I have integrated my memory issues with my exercise routine.
The more I forget, the more I get to go up & down stairs to the lower level.
A doctor asked if I exercised. I said, "Yeah...stairs 20-30 times a day."

It occurs to me that this title wouold make no sense to friends in other countries. If the U.S. it all startedc with Planet Hollywood; or maybe it was Planet Pizza. Before you knbew it seemed like everything started with "Planet." Planet Fitness is one of the largest chains of exercise clubs in the country.

Many years ago I wrote a song, Old Blue Suit. In the song I was remembering growing up when I wore high cut boots and knickers. It wasn't until I made friends wsith folks here on Mudcat that one of my women friends on here t9old me that in England, knickers are what are called panties in this country. Suddenly, the song seemed unintentionally kinky.

I expend more calories doing the hedging, mowing, mulching and planting than I do on pool and hot tub maintenance. Then I think I'm too exhaused to do a low energy task like practice or dishes. I'm pushing through an ordinary back sprain this May that makes mornings hellish. All my yard tools are electric which are so light and manouverable its really no big deal. Still front yard maintenance is like makeup for a house.

Good post, Donuel. I've been bringing my yard and propertyt up to snuff, these last couple of weeks, and it is very satisfying. It's good,k versatile exercise, too. When soeone drives by my house I don't want them to say, "Wow! whoever lives there must be old." I am not so proud that I don't get help when it's too much once in awhile. A friend of mine came over and mowed my lawn for me. He likes yard work and no longer has a yard of his own. I couldn't sit on the porch and watch him. I haven't adjusted to being helped. :-)

I no longer have the excuse "its too hot to mow".
My lawnmower is nearly silent and has headlights.

The teenage kids from down the street mow my lawn for 30 bucks a time. I think they believe they're exploiting me because they throw in leaf-raking for free. Or maybe they just like me.

Mowing is part of my exercise, and the reason I usually do the front one day and the back yard the next is to spread it out a bit. I have a fitness tracker and wear a gardening apron (actually a Home Depot nail bib that has two pockets, one for gloves and a pruning tool, the other has the case I slip my phone into) so my phone also keeps track of my work.

My vegetable garden is in the front yard and when I'm working in it people out for walks often stop by to talk. I don't get complaints from the neighbors (there's nothing they could do about it - no oppressive HOA here) because I give them produce. When they know they're looking at the source of tomatoes or okra or cucumbers, they look fondly on the growing tangle as the gardening season progresses.

I don't mow my whole lawn in one day, either. I've adjusted to ageing by taking life in little bites. It is amazing what I can still do as long as I take a break whenever if am starting to feel exhausted.

The yard here is a half-acre, so I can mow either front or back and the fitness tracker shows I've covered at least a mile by going around and back and forth. The next couple of mows are going to be brutal - we've had about 10 days of rain and the lawn is tall and lush.

Stilly Are you still stilly after all these years?

I am blessed/cursed with a thick lawn. It took me twenty years to get it as full as it is. In the Spring and early Summer, it makes mowing a bugger. It's worth it. I just don't try to do my whole lawn at one time. I do it in little bites.

My lawn is both hilly and bumpy. I switched from gas to electric 3 years ago, and it is sort of easier now, but the electric doesn't do straight uphill as well, so my 35 year old pattern has changed. Also, the electric simply doesn't care for any dampness. If I MUST mow when things are slightly wet, I have to clean the underside several times in 30-40 minutes. Still.. I don't have to buy gas, and it is quieter.
