Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Rapparee Date: 19 Sep 21 - 08:16 PM We've had swarms of earthquakes around Soda Springs, Idaho -- about 60 miles east of here -- 210 back in 2017. Here's some up around Yellowstone and its caldera. As I've often said, if Yellowstone blows I can't do anything about it because I don't have a cork that big. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Lighter Date: 20 Sep 21 - 07:49 AM Skarpi, we visited Iceland some years ago. We loved it! Really nice people, too! Am keeping fingers crossed that Hekla and Ketla stay asleep! Best wishes from the USA. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Steve Shaw Date: 20 Sep 21 - 08:20 AM And now Cumbre Vieja on La Palma in the Canary Islands has gone off. Isn't that the one that could destroy the east coast of the US if it slides into the Atlantic and causes a mega-tsunami? |

Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Donuel Date: 20 Sep 21 - 03:47 PM pics and movies of eruption Mt Aetna has risen 100 feet. Yellowstone had an active July. Jupiter took a bullet for Earth. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Steve Shaw Date: 20 Sep 21 - 05:16 PM Etna (which I've been up) has an altitude which, like most volcanoes, is a variable feast. But it's been pretty active for the last couple of years. It's a huge volcano and, as a consequence, most of the villages around are a safe distance from all except the fiercest eruptions. But they can happen! The seafront in Catania, the biggest nearby city, reveals the remains of relatively recent historical lava flows, which looks like a threat! |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Donuel Date: 20 Sep 21 - 06:03 PM It took 6 years for that 100 feet. he last time the Yellowstone supervolcano erupted was 640,000+ years ago. The Yellowstone eruption area collapsed upon itself, creating a sunken giant crater or caldera 1,500 square miles in area. Now thats a volcano. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: skarpi Date: 20 Sep 21 - 07:21 PM I am afraid that some thing is coming that is already affecting Earth, take care all all the best Skarpi |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Steve Shaw Date: 20 Sep 21 - 07:41 PM The Campanian Ignimbrite super-eruption of 39000 years ago was one of the biggest known in pre-history. The caldera, mostly under the sea, is still discernible in several localities, in particular the Solfatara crater at the town of Pozzuoli, a few miles west of Napoli, a crater which has a number of fierce fumaroles and boiling mud pools. The bradyseism (wholesale uplifting of the ground, by as much as two metres) caused panic in Pozzuoli in the early 80s, but all was well in the end...for now.... The Campanian Ignimbrite probably accelerated the demise of the Neanderthals. Another enticing fact is that Pozzuoli is Sophia Loren's home town. It's all in the Bay of Naples. To me, the Bay of Naples, from Sorrento to Napoli and beyond, is the centre of the world. Don't dismiss that as whimsy unless you've been there. The Amalfi Coast, just round the corner, is equally fabulous. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Donuel Date: 20 Sep 21 - 08:44 PM The Siberian traps eruptions probably hold a record of longest and the longest lasting. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Rapparee Date: 20 Sep 21 - 09:02 PM The plate over the Yellowstone "hot spot" has moved over the last few hundred thousand years, creating the Snake River Plain. Search for Craters Of The Moon National Monument -- some of it was created during the memory of the Shoshone Nation. |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Steve Shaw Date: 21 Sep 21 - 07:10 AM And Etna is erupting again... |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Ebbie Date: 24 Sep 21 - 03:20 AM Skarpi, today an acquaintance told me about his recent trip to Iceland. He and three friends rented four cars and spent 10 days on the island- and they all want to go back. All four are photographers and my friend said he'll post some of the photos, Ge said Iceland is lovely, gorgeous, wonderful! |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Mr Red Date: 24 Sep 21 - 05:18 AM The New Scientist publish an article about some geologists predicting that as the planet warms there will be more eruptions. My take on that is that it logically follows. If you think globally the rocks in the crust are analogous to toffee. As it warms, it is more pliable. And 1.5° C may seem miniscule but on what scale? Globally. More pliable, more movement, more magma coming to the surface. If you think the increase is immeasurable - watch this space. |

Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: Donuel Date: 26 Sep 21 - 12:09 PM It is true the Sun's orbit around the galaxy is entering a more crowded spiral arm and away from a relative empty zone of the Milky Way. We have already seen intersteller objects. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/mystery-of-interstellar-visitor-oumuamua-gets-trickier/ |
Subject: RE: BS: Two more Volcanos Yellow alert Iceland From: skarpi Date: 26 Sep 21 - 12:30 PM I am afraid it´s much bigger than Oumuamua or an Asteroid, and that´s why it affect´s Earth so much. take care all all the Skarpi Iceland . |
