Since Covid, I'm watching a lot more TV in the form of YouTube videos, and I've come across a series which I think more people would like to see.

My mother was a Rex Stout fan. In the mid-fifties my parents' idea of a good Saturday night was to eat potato chips and drink highballs while my mother curled up on the couch with a paperback, either Rex Stout or P.G. Wodehouse. [Don't ask me how my father spent the time.] As the years passed, I too started reading Rex Stout. Now the DH reads him.

A person named Usse Harr has posted dramatizations of Nero Wolfe novels on YouTube. [There have been other dramatizations, but Usse Harr's look the best to me.]Of course there are things that do not gibe with my personal images of Wolfe, Archie, Fritz and Saul, but I forgive. I love the interiors, the costumes, the manners, even (sometimes) the music.

If you are a Rex Stout fan, I suggest you try them. I'd like to hear what you think. Here's the URL for Part 1 of 'Champagne for One.' Enjoy Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2

This was an excellent Canadian-produced series that aired from 2001-2002 on the A&E network. There were 20 episodes, and also the 2000 pilot. I remember watching the episodes when they were first broadcast. I think Maury Chaykin was to Nero Wolfe what Jeremy Brett was to Sherlock Holmes, though it's a shame the series didn't last more than two seasons.

If you're a fan of detective fiction (and Nero Wolfe), the series is a must-see.

There is a great Italian language Nero Wolfe series.

Archie Goodwin rules.

There's a private group on Facebook - The Wolfe Pack - Fans of Nero Wolfe where they discuss all of these series and books, and sometimes spin off into discussions of who should play Nero and Archie in future televised series, etc.

I love listening to the unabridged audiobooks. I can't say how many I've listened to, and they weren't in order, but they're always very good. Some of them will never make it to a drama today.

Rex Stout was a master wordsmith. A few days ago I was reading a paragraph from an argument Archie and Wolfe were having, and I realized that the sentences sounded like lines of music. I'll try to find the passage and show everybody.

And I love it when Wolfe says, "Archie. Shut up." The period after Archie makes it almost affectionate.

The portrayal of Saul Panzer is all wrong. They have him lean, dark and intense. In my imagination Saul Panzer was a pale guy with dishwater hair and light eyes. You'd probably take him for a clerk in a shoe store, but you'd be making terrible mistake.
