Subject: Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Jan 22 - 06:03 AM Oh God, how can Barry Cryer have died! Not only did he possess that rare gift of funny bones, he also worked with all the great comedians. Not just a great comedy writer and stand-up in his own right, he was a wonderful raconteur too. We went to "an evening with Barry Cryer" in Exeter about 20 years ago, just him and the much-abused (comically, of course) Colin Sell at the piano. Utterly memorable. We once went to a jazz concert given by Humph and his band just a few week before Humph died, and he told us a joke that he'd got from Barry Cryer that brought th house down (naturally, you had to tell it right...) "Have you ever shoed a horse?" "No, but I l once told a pig to piss off..." Farewell, luvly feller! |

Subject: RE: Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Jan 22 - 06:27 AM I thought I was putting this below the line - I'm thinking it belongs there more. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Barry Cryer From: GUEST,Mike Yates Date: 27 Jan 22 - 06:55 AM One of the greats of radio. Very quick witted. He caused me to double up with laughter so many times while listening to him on 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue'. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Barry Cryer From: fat B****rd Date: 27 Jan 22 - 07:11 AM The gentleman made me laugh many times over the years RIP Mr. Cryer |
Subject: RE: Obit: Barry Cryer From: GUEST,JoeG Date: 27 Jan 22 - 10:51 AM Very sad news indeed. I'd noticed he had been absent from radio for a while and feared the worst |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: The Sandman Date: 27 Jan 22 - 04:30 PM Could this be placed below the line |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Jan 22 - 05:33 PM Yes please, mods! I didn't realise that it would automatically go above. It definitely belongs below. |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: YorkshireYankee Date: 27 Jan 22 - 05:41 PM Very sad to hear this. I too had noticed his (and Graeme Garden's) absence from recent ISIHAC broadcasts, and wondered if they were ok. He WAS indeed brilliant. That means there's now only one of the original Clue crew remaining... Vale Barry. |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: GUEST,Kenny B (inactive) Date: 28 Jan 22 - 08:19 AM Indeed sad news about Barry Dyer ,,,, a true gem in the crown of comedy Many of his live gems are on Im Sorry I haven't a Clue Dont be put off by the opening music. These programs were saved from the BBC "Bin for Now Innapropriate Comedy" and hundred of programmes put on to Youtube for the delectation of fans |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Mr Red Date: 30 Jan 22 - 03:59 AM It definitely belongs below. Actually he had a fine voice, particularly in younger days. He was often on "The Good Old Days" posing as true "Yorkshire Scots". Music Hall is often accepted as Folk. (discuss) |

Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Jan 22 - 08:04 AM Boss to secretary: "Have you seen my pencil?" "It's behind your ear, sir..." "I'm a very busy man! Which ear?" |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Herga Kitty Date: 30 Jan 22 - 08:17 AM After listening to BBC Radio 4's Broadcasting House tribute to Barry Cryer this morning I think there might be a case for putting this abover the line, especially as they played him singing Peace & Quiet with Ray Golden https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0013yzn - also available on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA6gJAG0Q6U Kitty |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Jan 22 - 01:23 PM A couple were walking along the road when the chap suddenly said, "Hey, that looks like the Archbishop of Canterbury over there!" "Well it certainly does look like him," she said. "Go and ask him if it's him!" He hesitated for a while but his wife kept on at him: "Go on, ask him if he's the Archbishop of Canterbury!" So he crossed the road and spoke to the bloke, then went back to his wife. "Well what did he say when you asked him?" "He told me to fuck off..." "Damn! Now we'll never know..." Cheers for that beauty, Barry! |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Jan 22 - 04:04 PM Kitty, whilst I share your sentiment, he's far better known as a comedian and a writer for comedians. If we keep him below the line, and maybe have a bit of fun with his gags, the thread might just attract a bit more interest down here in the bowels of the earth (he'd like that allusion!) |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 31 Jan 22 - 06:00 AM Great man. I saw him live a couple of times. Once at a local recording of ISIHAC (I still have the free kazoos the audience were given) and once at the Cartoon Museum where he introduced an exhibition of work by Trog and Humph. Good he was still alert and Podcasting (whatever that is!) up to the end. RtS |

Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Mr Red Date: 03 Feb 22 - 06:23 PM OK an obit thread, but it is fitting we should post Barry Cryer jokes. One of his: Wife trying on dresses in the bathroom: "does my bum look big in this?" Barry replies: "Well to be fair love, it is quite a small room" |
Subject: RE: 2022 Obit: Barry Cryer From: Steve Shaw Date: 03 Feb 22 - 08:08 PM Definitely fitting! |
