For years I explained presbyopia as a combination of the lens in your eye becoming stiffer, and the muscles squeezing it lax. Both of which must be contributing.

But more recently I read that the eye keeps on growing, (as does ears & noses). Which would place the focal point away from the macular.

Apart from the obvious that presbyopia occurs long after the normal years of reproduction, what evolutionary pressures does it imply? Given that not everyone suffers from it.

It's one-eyed thought up earlier.

Unless you have one of the more expensive and complex replacement lenses implanted, it's a permanent condition following cataract surgery.

You can buy readers in multi-packs at Costco.

Evolutionary pressures don't count if you're too old. I would suggest that people old enough to show these problems were no longer breeding.

Mr. Red is a genius for realizing that as focal length changes we could simply graft leg bone segments to the arms until walking becomes impossible and our arms are 6 ft long.

I will be trying this brand new option.

They have not tested this on people over 100 or dolphins so I hope it works for me.
The dehydrating aspect to these eye drops may be of unique benefit for Fuch's syndrome of too much fluid in the eye.

Being too old to have kids does not make you neutral to evolution... - Extended family, supporting & advising with childcare for one.

One way menopause did contribute to evolution - (eg) Downs Syndrome is more of a risk to older mums. So not reproducing at a age of risk frees the tribe of caring for less able members. If you are a hunter-gatherer, these things are not inconsequential.

And the eyes have it - there was a New Scientist article from an Italian ophthalmologist who reckoned the opticians' world were prescribing too perfect lenses which didn't allow the eye muscles to exercise. But that was good for business as the eyes got lazy!

I had cataract surgery. Had the toric lenses installed, even though Medicare didn't cover them and I paid for them myself. It corrected my eyes to 20/25 in each eye, instead of the results of the uncorrected amblyopia I'd suffered with for since I was about 7 years old.

I may get descemet stripping which is a minute long 2 mm incision surgury. Recovery time can be days.

it is the improved version of cornea transplants that fail over time.
This new method is 94% successful.

I read all the side effects for vuity eye drops that replace reading glasses. thumbs down imo

Not for fragile older eyes with a risk of retinal detachment. Its for vain 40 year olds imo.
