Subject: BS: Wisdom of Heather Cox Richardson From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Sep 22 - 10:08 PM I imagine many of us are followers of the Boston College historian Heather Cox Richardson. I thought we might need a thread to share her wisdom. Here's her "20 Questions" presentation at Harvard University: |

Subject: RE: BS: Wisdom of Heather Cox Richardson From: Donuel Date: 19 Sep 22 - 11:07 AM Boston College is where my wife got her PHD. Constant crises, Real or Imaginary, has always caused a fear that makes people cry out "please save us", Seeing what was happening in Germany, Jewish leaders in America had a public meeting at the Astor Hotel in the nineteen thirties. The debate was whether to stay quiet and not further antagonize the anti immigration white Protestants OR to speak out and demonstrate against the human tragedy. While Rabbi Wise spoke heroicly to cry out, we can now see what 'shutting up' allowed to happen. So as anyone with memory can see I err on the side of speaking out for the last 15 years against the totalitarian might makes right nationalists. That includes protesting Bush and Obama for causing or ignoring fascist policies. Obama got it wrong about Trump not having an ideology. Bush tortured and Unconstitutionally went over the edge. Trump was the one that openly supported white nationalism and allowed it to flood out of the woodwork. OUR IMAGINARY ENEMIES. In the strangely acclaimed new movie Top Gun the enemy is never defined. They are only referred to as 'the enemy'. Trump made the enemy the illusive Antifa and black looters he vowed to shoot after the George Floyd demonstrations. Trump, Republican politicians and the fascist militias are not imaginary. In fact Trump has employed most of the successful Hitler-Goebbels strategies and has allowed a flood of white nationalists to openly engage in violence. Years ago I noticed a couple minor examples of Joe Offer NOT being fascist but fascist adjacent, We squabbled. He may even have been enticed by some of the shock tactics by certain politicians. BUT clearly this was an imaginary pressing of my buttons. Joe is not even Nazi adjacent. He does have an acutely opinionated side which is not a bad thing. Its a good thing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wisdom of Heather Cox Richardson From: Donuel Date: 19 Sep 22 - 12:31 PM Note that Heather Richardson was speaking 3 years before the capitol insurrection riots. In a way she is late to the party but she got it right even in 2017. It is a rather long link. |
