Today, May 1, 2023 folksinger, Judy Collins is 84 years old.
Judy is still performing and recording. I bought her latest album, called "Spellbound" that was released in 2022.
Wonderful album and Judy still sounds great.
Happy, happy birthday, Judy. Love,,love, love your music.

and Judy's response was just after Lin posted on the Origins: The Song of Wandering Aengus

I didn't realise when I chose to sing Bread and Roses on Mudcat 1 May singaround, in honour of May Day as a workers' holiday, that I was singing on the birthday of Judy Collins and the day after the birthday of the late Mimi Baez Farina. James Oppenheim composed the lyrics as a poem in 1911, inspired by the words of labour activist Rose Schneiderman. I don't know if Judy and/or Mimi were at all familiar with the tune Caroline Kohlsatt had composed for the poem; at any rate, Judy Collins asked Mimi Farina to compose an air for the tune. Collins recorded the song with that tune, which appears to be the best known setting of the tune today. (I don't know that any of the many settings of Yeat's Wandering Aengus poem has emerged as a clear public favourite!)

Just a 13-year gap between posts! Great background tidbits, Felipa.

In the 60/70s Judy had a song released which started 'If you ever need a friend, call on me I'll be waiting here' Does anyone remember this or have an audio of the song please. I don't think it did very well in the charts but I loved it and would love to hear it again.

Georgiansilver, I did a web search for the song you ask about, and the only thing I found was a post of yours from a few years back in another Judy Collins thread. I hope someone can track the song down.

Felipa, I missed a chance to make the Fariña connection when I sang A Swallow Song two songs after you sang Bread and Roses.
