In the New York Times of all things.

I found it very interesting. One line that really caught my eye was

For them, Morris is appealing precisely because it looks back to a preindustrial time, largely untainted by England’s sticky colonial legacy. “Young people are casting around looking for a way to comfortably engage with their nation,” Moss said. “Morris and the folk scene offers so many opportunities to do this.”

Enjoy

Thanks, DtG!

One thing that literally catches the eye about the article, is
the absence of any photos of TRADITIONAL Morris dance costumes.
There is a verbal description, but no photos.
All the photographs are of a women's "side"
which has non-traditional costumes and is performing
by a set of standing stones.

My experience, is that it appealed tp people because they enjoyed dancing and socialising,
the quote suggests that young people were backward looking,[unlikely] the suggestion that it had anything to do with colonialism or the lack of it is puzzling.

Interesting that an article from the NYT focuses so much on the English Morris dance scene when there's a blossoming Morris dance scene in the US which deserves coverage too

Did the article mention possible origins?
