Subject: Name this Spinners song From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 14 Jan 24 - 05:33 AM Posted on the Mudcat FB page while this site was down. Someone asked for the title/words of this song that Cliff Hall of the Spinners used to sing: Can't you see that I walk with the sun in my face Can't you tell by my speed I don't race RtS |

Subject: RE: Name this Spinners song From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 17 Jan 24 - 06:36 AM Yes, WI. I only had one WI holiday, to St Lucia 35 years ago. A local folk duo entertained on 2 evenings and were amazed that we and another UK guest couple could sing the choruses and some of the verses to some of their songs- learned from Spinners tv and live concerts. Cy Grant & Nadia Cattouse also did WI songs in the same period but Cliff with the Spinners got more exposure. I can hear the lines in my head that Malc mentioned but can't bring back the rest, so annoying! RtS |
Subject: RE: Name this Spinners song From: GUEST,Robbiesroom Date: 17 Jan 24 - 08:38 AM Hello......I seem to remember learning this song (I didn't perform it very often). The title 'Brown Boy" springs to mind. It was on the album "Not Quite Folk" from about 1969. Sorry if I am mistaken |
Subject: RE: Name this Spinners song From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 17 Jan 24 - 09:46 AM YES! It IS Brown Boy (confirmed by Hughie Jones to Malc). I've just listened to it again. As I have hearing problems (well, I'm 80!), I can't make out all the lyrics and they don't seem to be in the DT. Written by David Campbell and on the LP mentioned previously (Not Quite Folk). Anyone who has the lyrics in an accessible form, please post. Thanks for help. Rts |
