Maybe 10 years ago I read a report of scientific research that found memory recall performance was better when in the same conditions to when you learned.

Sooooooooo, ladies & gentlemen (and Morris dancers) I submit my go to condition.

Cider.

1) For social dancing, the 4.5% ABV, in the UK, is enough for a vaso-dilatory effect, which helps blood flow, and oxygen to the muscles.
2) There is enough water to re-hydrate, essential in the summer.
3) And that is the condition in which I learned to strip the willow to a hornpipe (other figures/steppings are available)

I can hear the naysayers using the word "drunk" to which I remind peoples that pretty much all medicines have a toxicity level and............

DOSAGE IS EVERYTHING.

The term for that is "state-dependent learning". I first read about it 50 years ago.

I believe it's termed "conditioned recall". And it's one reason why Morris sides should, ideally, practice in the back room of a pub or other licensed premises.

I prefer the term, "Memory Juice" because it has a much better placebo effect..............

It helps when assisting novices to Mazurka

My other dance is a Porcher - Valse, Schottishe, March.

For me, merlot or medoc from South America (or failing that, plonque rouge de la maison) Does The Right Thing. I've been known to call it "bard juice" in public, with mischief aforethought, and have yet to be corrected: the true bard juice is mead.

Surprisingly I am, what is referred to in the wine trade, as a "red head".

The mix of alcohols** that give rise to the colour & taste, make for headaches quicker.

** also called congeners (he said from memory)
