Subject: Stars and Stripes Forever on one guitar From: Peter Timmerman Date: 22 Jun 97 - 05:34 PM Some years ago I heard on the radio someone playing Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever on the guitar, full steam, the whole orchestra all by himself. It was so great I pulled off the road to listen. I have completely forgotten who it was, but I do know it was recorded with an audience, who were as carried away as I was. Does anyone know who did this, and is it available? I would love to hear it again (maybe even for the 4th of J). Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Stars and Stripes Forever on one guitar From: Date: 22 Jun 97 - 11:33 PM Don't think I've heard that one ,but I have heard CHET ATKINS play both DIXIE (on the LOW strings) and YANKEE DOODLE (on the HIGH strings) at the same time on the guitar..and he picks the TAR out of Cassions Go Rolling Along/Anchors Aweigh/The Marines Hymn and The USAForce song..each separately, of course.. Phil Baugh (who could IMITATE all the top guitarists of his time and "THUMBS" Carlisle were also two HIGHLY TALENTED Guitarists...

Subject: RE: Stars and Stripes Forever on one guitar From: Bill D --extree@erols.com Date: 23 Jun 97 - 11:28 AM I have a record of Pete Kairo playing that...I saw him almost 20 years ago...he is from the Boston area....he says on the record that he got the arrangement form Guy Van Duser...The record is 'Physical Records-PR 32-006' dated 1976....,,there is an address, though I doubt is is good....
The Physical World Pete Kairo does not show up in an Alta Vista search, so I have no idea where he is now... |
Subject: RE: Stars and Stripes Forever on one guitar From: Chris Date: 23 Jun 97 - 11:59 AM My favorite fingerstyle guitar version of Stars and Stripes is by Guy Van Duser. It's the most impressive version. One man and a nylon string guitar, recorded live I don't recall the name of the album. Chet Atkins also does a fine version. |
