My partner, Debbie, and I are on holiday in Boston Mass. for Easter weekend and then in Newport Rhode Island until Sunday 30/4/00. We sing unaccompanied harmony in the trad. mode and are looking for somewhere to sing or listen to music during our stay. Can anyone help?

About an hour north of Boston in Portsmouth NH, on Fri nights (about 4:30PM to about 8:45PM) we have a noisy, crowded session at the Press Room. We play tunes and sing. (Quite a few trad. unacompanied songs.) If you're interested in directions or more info, please e-mail me. Of course, there's probably tons of stuff around Boston.

Just wanted to add that if you sing in Mass, its no longer required to do so in Latin.

We are coming from England ETA Boston Logan 1700 hours on 21/4 (tomorrow) and staying for the weekend and then going to Rhode Island for a week - departing Sunday 30/4 from Boston Logan at 2000 hours - so thank you for your recommendation for 30/4 but we will be at the airport! Any other suggestions, in the next 12 hours, would be gratefully received. Thanks.

I'd recommend Atwater-Donnelly at the Beacon Hill Coffeehouse on 4/22. Traditional, appalachian, some a cappella.

Husband & wife with guitars, mountain dulcimer, flute, banjo & a few other odds 'n ends, incl. "limberjacks" (see other thread). Authentic and very good - have seen them several times 'cause they're local.

Keep in touch when you get to Boston. Something's bound to develop.

Sunday night there's a session, usually including some sean nos singing, at the Blackthorne Pub in Easton, Mass., starting about 5:30 p.m. It's about an hour's drive, maybe a bit longer, from Newport on Route 138. Tinker's Nest in Bristol or Warren, R.I., was having sessions on Monday nights. Probably best to call first, though it's worth stopping in for their seafood stuffies. It's about a half-hour's drive out of Newport on Route 114. Newport's home to Paul Geremia, a wonderful country blues player, and the Newport Blues Club comes highly recommended. There's usually some good jazz playing in at least one of the other clubs. There are a couple of good folk venues in Portsmouth and Tiverton, R.I. Tiger's giving you good advice on Atwater & Donnelly.

I will be at the South Shore Folk Music Club as a featured performer tomorrow night.

It's an open mic, unfortunately that is not like the wonderful singing sessions that happen in UK pubs. Send me a private message if you are interested. I also have LOTS of free time on Saturday, but no car. I'd love to show you around Boston...

Hey, if you haven't left yet. Try to make it to Northampton, MA. Right off the Mass Pike, exit 18ish. Check out The Iron Horse, also, Fire and Water Cafe. Smith College is near graduation so it's shouldn't be completely and utterly and impossibly conjested. If you can, walk into town, take a bus, cab, don't drive if you wanna get someplace on time.
