Subject: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST,Unicorn Date: 19 Apr 00 - 05:22 PM 21st to 24th April 2000 (good Friday to Easter Monday ... I've never been but it's been going now for 12 years - and I always leave it too late to find accommodation especially as it's over a Bank Holiday. Can anyone help? Does anyone know of B&B in pub or small hotel? Share cost of twin room? (By the way, I'm female). Any ideas? |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Margo Date: 19 Apr 00 - 05:26 PM Um, at the risk of sounding really dumb, I'd like to ask where is Lancaster? Margo |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: GUEST Date: 19 Apr 00 - 06:11 PM Unicorn, I went a few years back, and it's a nice, albeit low key, weekend. As far as accomodation is concerned, you've left it pretty late. My best advice would be to get in touch with the University - they generally have a number of rooms going. Of course, offering yourself as a female who wants to share a room... I doubt that you'll short of offers :-) Enjoy |

Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: MartinRyan Date: 19 Apr 00 - 08:11 PM Is it in Lancaster itself - or Glasson Dock? In was in that area many years ago - I recall buying some tapes of The Shanty Crew. Regards |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Liam's Brother Date: 19 Apr 00 - 11:29 PM The festival takes place at a numbers of venues in the centre of the city of Lancaster and in the Maritime Museum. If anyone's going, I look forward to seeing you there. Bob Conroy and I will be doing 3 concerts per day Sat/Sun/Mon.
All the best, |
Subject: RE: Lancaster Maritime Festival From: Liam's Brother Date: 26 Apr 00 - 12:01 PM Had a great time in Lancaster. I met Cyril Tawney for the first time in 20 years. He sang towards the end of the program on the last night and sounded better than he did 35 years ago! It was great seeing Lou Killen too; he sang and played very well. We talk on the phone often but it was great to be in the same room with him again after 2 years. The Scots trio, Harestane, were brilliant. Fiddle, accordion and whistle and all 3 were fine fine singers. Of the shanty groups, we particularly enjoyed Stormalong John of the Liverpool Maritime Museum who sang with great gusto and a deep love of the music. Bob Conroy and I did nine 30 to 45 minute spots in 3 days and did a lot of singing on the sidelines too. We are hoarse as can be this morning. One of the other highlights for us was the hour and a half we spent gabbing with John Conolly, author of Fiddler's Green and a delightful gentleman. I would recommend this festival, which happens every Easter, to everyone.
All the best,
|
