Subject: Jamming in Cleveland
From: GUEST,Diane
Date: 30 Apr 00 - 07:20 PM

My husband Bill and I are OLD TIME musicians who perform locally now that we're retired from traveling. We want to start holding JAM SESSIONS for acoustic people and find it very hard to find anyone willing to come to the WEST SIDE OF CLEVELAND (we live in Lakewood). I'm hoping there is some FOLKIES and Bluegrass lovers who want to HANG OUT (like in the 60's) and meet some new friends and have a good time just creating music together. Anyone out there? Here's my web site to visit, meet us, and send us LOTS OF E-MAIL especially if you want to get started and have a HOOTENANY HAPPENING. Peace. Diane http://www.geocities.com/ohioweaver.geo/

Hi Diane...and Welcome to the 'Cat. We don't have a lot of Ohio members, but this is the friendliest little folk village on the web. The DT database is the best you'll find anywhere on the net and if you check out some of the "Quick Links" at the top of the page, you'll find lots of other fun things on this site. There is a thread on this page titled FAQ Welcome to Mudcat which explains some of the navigation and stuff too. Every Wednesday night ther is Mudcat Radio and most nights anymore there is a sing-around on "HearMe" (look for a thread with that in the title and there is a "hot link" in the first few postings somewhere.

I liked your site and I think I ran into you down at Roscoe or Zoar.....or maybe at that fair/show up around Medina? Its been several years back now, but I recognize the faces and the music....I just can't place the "place." BTW, I live in Southeast Ohio.

Anyway, stick around and check through the threads on the forum and feel free to post anywhere and on any subject anytime. AND....Join up....Doesn't cost a thing and you get a Personal Message page and the ability to trace threads.

Again, welcome to Mudcat.

Spaw

There 'ya go, now I've done it! I have joined as an authentic Grandma who's about to become a Great Grandma sometime this month! But that doesn't stop me and Bill from having a gig now and then. Last one at our local Library here in Lakewood, Ohio. We played Cajun tunes with a little history of the people and their exile from Canada to Louisiana (just one of the places they were sent to)and ended our 1 hr. show with the 12 Days of a Cajun Christmas. (pretty funny when you speak in a Cajun/english accent I must say). This particular prg. was titled: HOW'S A BAYOU? Anyway, I want to ask anyone---I'm a weaver/knitter who wants to trade my work for a nice fiddle/case that plays ok, doesn't need anything done to the instrument and it has to be worth about $100. to $200. to get one of my rugs. Any takers out there? Drop an e-mail to MidiGal@aol.com

I want everyone who lives in the Greater Cleveland area, and especially Lakewood, to send me a HELLO so we can begin getting a JAM SESSION started in the park or my backyard. Next item: does anyone have a fiddle in playing condition that they would like to trade for something? I am a handweaver and custom knitter. Have some great rugs or sweaters to trade for a working fiddle with bow and case. Any one want to talk about it?

Grandma; Sorry, I'm not from the Cleveland area. I did live in Aurora for a couple of years when I was in school(Back when dinosaurs walked the earth 1969-1971). If I hear of anyone with a fiddle I'll e-mail you. Hope the jam session works out for you. Neil

Grandma, may I suggest that you might start a thread which has CLEVELAND in the message topic? Might get people from the region to lok at it.

....uh.......living elsewhere?

Sorry, mandatory Cleveland joke. I don't honestly think that any city in the US has undergone such a drastic revision/rennovation then Cleveland has in the past 15 years. But the jokes will never die.

ADVICE
Come to New York and hear Sorcha Dorcha on May 17 at the New Age Cabaret, 23 Saint Marks Place, 8 - 10 PM. Sorry, no plans to play Cleaveland as yet... well... perhaps ever, as yet... sorry. But, what the hay, find us a way... and we might make it.
Untill then... You gotta come to New York to hear us.
Larry

Kiki Cook, welcome to the Mudcat. That's a fascinating question, and you're most likely to get a response by starting a thread with the song name in the title of the thread. Click on "Start a New Thread", and good luck!

Aloha,
Mark

Has anyone heard of a song called "The Battle of San Jacinto" about the battle after the fight at the Alamo? It describes the music played (a favourite song of Sam Houston)as the Americans charged as "Come to the Bower" rather than "Come to the Arbor." Thanks.

Well, Grandma, I'm a little closer than 'Spaw, ut Youngstown is still a bit of a drive. Still, I hope to get together with you sometime in the future. (sorry, no fiddle here.) Maybe we Ohioans can meet someplace mutually inconvenient, like Athens. (Lovely place, no good way to get there. :))
