From: katlaughing
Date: 28 May 00 - 08:27 PM

Mudcatter Micca, who many of us have come to know and love, went in hospital on Wednesday for what was supposed to be a fairly simple surgery. For whatever reasons, the docs decided they had to use a more invasive procedure, so he will have to be there at least until next Wednesday or maybe later, depending on how he does in the next few days.

Now, as Micca himself says, "I don't do patience." He is recovering enough to be grumpy about having to be there and chomping at the bit to go home.

So, for those of you who would like, please, send him some good thoughts, prayers, or whatever so that he can heal up and start in, again, on packing giants around in parades and such.

Micca, darlin', take a deep breath and let your body heal. I know it is hard to be "confuser-less", but we will all be here when you get back.

You'd better give that Terri a hug for keeping us all posted too. Granted, she tends to hog the pretzles a bit, and I think she cheated at Battleship, I just can't prove it yet..but she's been great about keeping us all posted.

Don't know you, but god, do I sympathise with anyone in the hospital. I was recovering from surgery last September, and felt much better once OUT of that dreary place, with no more needles stuck in me, catheters, etc. Hang in there, flirt with the nurses, and look forward to the real recovery when you're back home. Check out the jokes thread, as well. That's my prescription.

Yours in health,

Ya know Micca, its hard to have a sense of humor when you're in pain ain't it? And the folks who staff these damn places seem to have a weird sense of humor themselves.

When I had the by-pass, they went to great lengths to explain prior to the surgery about "What to do if you have to cough." They explained all the details of holding the pillow over your chest, arms crossed, etc. Then they said that this was traumatic to the surgical incision (read: chopping your breastbone in half with an ax). Then, as soon as you are off the vent, the first thing they want you to do is COUGH. Now I know this is to keep your lungs clear and prevent pneumonia, but you'd think they could come up with a "Lung Sucker" of some sort so you wouldn't have to wouldn't you? So you cough for them and they say, "Again...a little deeper this time." You wish at this point you were stonger so you could get out of bed and kick their ass.

After this comes the cruelest joke. You feel a sneeze coming on. All of a sudden, in that nanosecond before you sneeze, a whole series of thoughts fly through your brain which can be summarized by, "If a cough liked to kill me, this is gonna' be a motherfucker.......and the SOB's never MENTIONED sneezing!!!" After the sneeze, when someone has picked up the quivering blob on the floor that used to be your body and returned it to an upright position, thought #2 hits-----"Sneezes always seem to come in 3's." Uh-huh. Two more sneezes later, you are barely alive and wondering where you can steal some morphine when a nurse walks in and, after a check of your vitals, says, "Okay, now cough...Have to keep those lungs clear don't we?" You try to remember anyone you've known in the past who might be willing to drop by the hospital and beat this bimbo to a bloody pulp.

And why do they all say "we." Like, "We have to cough....We have to get our exercise....We have to take our shower." The main practioners of this plural art are always the most unattractive women you have ever met and you want to say, Honey, I wouldn't get in a shower with you if I was being attacked by Killer Bees."

Of course there are bedpans......How the hell can you shit lying flat on your back? Actually you're arched backwards. So they whip the sucker under you and then leave......and don't come back......and in the meantime a group of friends walk in.........right then.............

I really enjoy the part where you try to move around with all the stuff hooked up. Especially fun is walking down the hall with your IV stand held by one hand, your catheter bag half full of piss in the other, and your ass hanging out. Very attractive.

Well Cousin, I hope you're having a fun time and that the fun doesn't last much longer!!!!

Cousin Pat

Oh dear Micca, do get well soon! Spaw, how well I remember when my Mum had the bypass, but she had nowhere near your sense of humor; besides, she WANTED to stay in hospital because they pampered her. When she got home, I wouldn't! "So get up and go pee, already!"

Quick side note to you Sorch....I bet your Mum complained more about her leg. Everyone I know, including myself, who's had a bypass always complains more about the vein removal site. Hurts like hell!!! Always struck me weird that most of the longer term pain associated with having your chest cut open was in your leg instead!!! Did your Mum ever try to go through a metal detector? I can't go through one stark naked without setting the damn thing off....the wire staples in my sternum are enough to do it.

Sheesh! If they EVER decide they have to replace a valve, I'll remember that, Spaw! "Bionic woman sets off alarms!"

Good news, phoaks! Terri had to run off to a rehearsal, but she got a chance to talk to himself and he is off the oxygen AND, had his first cup of tea! She says that is a really big deal to him and he sounded quite "chirpy." Now, all they have to do is make sure things are moooving along through the *system*, detach the rest of the tubes, and he will get to go home!

Good thoughts, good friends, and good music, what more can ya ask for, eh?

There can be an upside to being in hospital. Here's a song I wrote when I was in to have my leg fixed in The Chestnut Ward

In the Chestnut Ward,
in the middle of the night,
propped up on your pillow
you wait till it gets light.
And though your body's aching,
you know that it's all right,
in the Chestnut Ward,
in the middle of the night.

(The rest of it is behind that blue clicky thing in the Mudcat Songbook. Or here on my own website)

oh yeah.......that's another damn thing that the staff has a good laugh over I'm sure.

After last year's part two of the "Catspaw Saga" (the internal bleeding, we can't find it, chop out some small intestine part), everyone was constantly listening for "bowel sounds" and encouraging me to blow a load. Now I hadn't eaten anything but ice chips in 8 days, had bled out 14 pints of blood, and the only other thing I HAD ingested was barium, two bottles of laxative stuff to flush the barium, and 2 1/2 gallons of that "cleanout mix" in ONE day because they did TWO lower G.I.'s the same day. Exactly what was I supposed to be making bowel sounds with? Those folks are a million laughs.......

After many attempts, I was able to get through and speak to Micca, today! He sounded GREAT! Said to say hello to all and that he was feeling "quite positive." He's been in education all of his life and never lets an opportunity go by; this Friday, he will be helping to teach med students by being a *model patient* whom they have to *diagnose*! So, that takes care of any boredom!

Looks as though he will be able to go home by the weekend and is well on the way to recovery. Very pleased with the hospital and staff, etc. Hope Audrey is ready....sounds as though he's got them eating out of his hand!**BG**

Micca, you said Audrey would print this out and bring it to you, so....it was great to hear your voice and to know you are doing so much better. Keep up the good work and Fare Well to home, dearie! And, a great big THANK YOU to Audrey and Terri!

Ya know, that's got potential.........

Send in an ass picture to Max. Every pic has a "clue" with it (something small, unlike some of the asses, that would help the guessing) and then anyone wanting to play pays 5 bucks/guess, enteer as often as you like....is that about it Jeri? We could post them on one of those freebie album websites.....We give away a couple of T-shirts and CD's or something for prizes......I could see getting 500 bucks or more out of this...........

WARNING! WARNING!

SPAW IS NOT JOKEING!

I have just been solicited by a Mr. Spaw, with regards to my sending in a photo of my ass for some sort of shock therapy treatment for mudcatter friend Micca.

All I can say is that if my ass had the power to heal, in any way, people would be queing for a stroke (or a Poke)
BUTT! NO this is not the case!
Spaw turn back before it is too late, Micca will return a newer and stronger model than before, and whip you to a pulp with his hand clenching a multitude of photos of hairy posteriors.
They say it's the thought that counts, I would use a calculator ( a cold calculator).
Now you may say I am bringing Micca sower grapes.
Micca! you must believe I have your best interests at heart.( I would however like a set of photoes of the lady section butts, should they arrive, as they may help in a research project I am doing..Purely scientific you understand.! Do get well quick before Spaw puts his plans into action. Spider Tom (covering his butt)

Spaw, my angel, if you think I am going anywhere near Micca's rear end with a camera, or anything else, you have another think coming. There is nothing you could pay me, nor anything you could bribe me with that would persuade me to endeavour such a foolhardy, if not downright dangerous task! It is however a splendid idea, and I salute you for it,I go further, I award you the Mudcat Snog of the Day for creative thinking and dubious taste!

Glad to hear Micca is in fine form! Keep those cornflakes coming! He does seem like someone who will not be kept down long. Terri, get your dear uncle to eat some fresh spring greens (dandelion, chard, nettles, etc.)and he will mend even faster...

and while I am very glad he is on his way home after landing his ass in the hospital, I can do the necessary healing visualization without a photo of said ass, thankyouallthesame...

ahem...sorry 'bout that, sailors. But then I hear you seafaring types are known to mistake big smelly manatees for golden-tressed mermaids...depends how long you've been at sea I guess!

I have to decline on the dozen photos Spaw! Though there are a few in existence...Mind you, I was about thirty pounds lighter when I was an exotic dancer...but I still work as an art model where it is not so much about perfection...

hey, now, this is about Micca! let's not let the topic wander too far...and heavens to betsy, let's not go causing any heart attacks...

Deities be praised, saw him about an hour ago, he was wearing a dressing gown, so no more arse pictures or butt jokes please.... phew!

He was much better, particularly now he has been allowed TEA, and is well on the way to being able to move to the proper toilet, rather than the jolly bottle. Although he better watch out, the door handle came off in my hand when I used it on Sunday - we know a song about this don't we!!

He was greatly cheered by the printout Aud did of this thread, and looks a lot better now he is off the drips and oxygen feeds. The gallstone has been called Jonah Lomu - cos it's big, black and hard! And not dissimilar to a musket ball.

Better go - love to all and thanks for everything, LTS

Oh, well, straight from Audrey, Micca's better half, came this update; looks as though he will be let loose by Sundayor Monday:

He's been wearing a grotty old housecoat to cover his ass during the perambulations down the corridors. Anyway, all the fan mail has cheered him up no end, the cat bathing story had me in tears of laughter, so pass on thanks to everyone. Bye for now!

Thanks, Audrey!

Micca- A little late, but my best wishes for a speedy recovery. I really appreciate this thread, and all that the various mudcatters have put into it, because I am a Registered Nurse, who has also been hospitalized. So I've been on both sides of the aisle. And I'm starting to think, that at least in my small corner of the world, I can make at least a small difference in the way my fellow nurses approach patient care. Nurses, often overworked to the point of absurdity, need constant reminders that the patient comes first, and that friends and family, if any :( also need attention, and are a VITAL part of recovery.

So, I trust you are home by now. If all goes well, so be it. But if you suffer undue pain, or other complications, RIDE YOUR DOCTOR'S ASS. Nurses have to do it all the time till they get things right. You are at a disadvantage, because you can't wake him up as easily as I can, but you can still call the hospital and talk to an on-call Doc, who if isn't sure what's going on, will wake your Dr. up. :) Anything serious warrants a trip to the ER, of course, but you don't have to suffer pain or possible infection till your "next appointment". The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Best wishes for you and your's, BlueJay

Well, at this point, if all went according to plan, the lad should be home. I'm also sure he was driving everyone nuts, chomping at the bit.

Blue Jay makes a great point too here. I think a lot of docs are really excellent as are a lot of nurses and other health care pros. But some seem to think that MD stands for "Major Deity." Did you ever notice that the same doctor who wakes you up while making his rounds at 6 AM, doesn't show up until noon on the day you're supposed to be released? Talk about driving the staff crazy...........You're ready to go, everybody KNOWS you're leaving, NOBODY can let you go except the doc who is AWOL!!!! I don't know where nurses get their patience in dealing with it. Now I know it doesn't do any good to ride them about it, but sadly, they are the only ones there. Yeah, I know, "Doc" may be in a surgery, maybe an emergency even.......He may also be on the 15th tee at Riverbend!!!

Hope you're home Micca!!! If not, the round is probably about over by now.

Its really great to see you back!!! Now you can start pissin' and moanin' around the house and driving everybody nuts as they drive you nuts. I mean like things still hurt so you complain and everybody gets tired of your crap........But on the other hand you're ready to prove you're not a damn invalid either so you do stuff that people keep telling you not to do, which pisses them all no end since you need to take it slowly. It really is a big vicious circle kind of thing......very nasty in my case, wasn't pretty...many deaths.

So just do as you're told, layabout, emulate cauliflower, score some good drugs from the Doc, and give it a few weeks. Get Audrey some prozac. Give Terri a hug from all of us for the good job she did in keeping us up to date.

Glad he's home, the Squeak Household taxi picked him up at lunchtime, so I hope he survived the speed bumps with the Shark driving...... I never do....

I daresay a picture of the LFG (Litte fat git) will appear somewhere, there's a good one where he looks like something out of Star Wars, all tubes and machines that go Piingggggggg. The gall stone aka Jonah Lomu will be on display to all who visit - next to the condiments on the dining room table if I know my old mate!!

As you know, my wife Karen is a histotech.....One of the lab folks who takes the big parts, chops them into smaller parts, slices them up real thin, puts them on a slide and colors up all those little cells different colors so the pathologists can see why it is you're whupped up. When she was in school about 20 years back, one of the instructors took several gallstones out of a sample jar, chopped up one to be imbedded while she proceeded to eat the others. The others were Raisinettes but she'd done a beautiful sleight-of-hand and the entire class was grossed out.

I am still coming to the UK June 14th and while I no longer expect you'll be up for hosting me and Berta given your recent bout of under-the-weatherness, it would still be lovely to meet you and we'd love to meet you and yours for a spot of tea (or whatever) if you are up for it!

I will send you a personal note with more details...
