Subject: Unicorns-- not the one listed From: GUEST,Bekki --- healing@frognet.net Date: 12 Jul 00 - 09:55 AM I'm looking for Unicorns as sung by June Tabor (I actually first heard this at Irish Week at Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop in 1984 (?) sung by Mick Maloney, so it's been out there for a while.) Not sure who wrote it. Such a good song I'm not sure why it's not in this collection yet... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Unicorns-- not the one listed From: Barbara Date: 12 Jul 00 - 11:27 PM Bekki, is that "Once there were Unicorns"? If it is, I once found it in DT, and it probably got pulled because we didn't have the songwriter's permission to have it here. If it is the one I think, it's by Bill Chaddick, and perhaps someone will post it. blessings, Barbara |

Subject: Origins: I Dreamed There Were Unicorns (Caddick) From: GUEST,Bill Caddick caddick.family@irgin.net Date: 28 Nov 00 - 02:17 PM Thanks out there for the interest in the song "Unicorns". Your informant got the words and info just about right for once! The incident happened just before Christmas 1974 at the end of a long and exhausting tour with Magic Lantern and I was sleeping in the back of a smelly old van when I had the dream. I woke up just outside the massive chemical works around Middlesborough. Enough to make anyone weep, whether they'd been dreaming of unicorns or not! I actually wrote the song a week later just after Christmas. Hate to advertise...but... I'm partway through a retrospective album called (you guessed it) "Unicorns". Details on the new website which should be up andd running soon. bill caddick.co.uk cheers, Bill Caddick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Unicorns-- not the one listed From: winniemih Date: 29 Nov 00 - 11:34 AM This song has haunted me since I first heard it sung about 10 years ago by a brother/sister duo from Liverpool U.K. living at the time in the Portland OR (USA)area. They performed by the stage name Both Wilde (their last name was Wilde). They did an exquisite version of this and other tunes. I believe they may have gone back to England. Anyone come across these two lately? |

Subject: Unicorns From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Jul 14 - 08:01 PM Dm C We were travelling North to sing and play Dm C Dm To people we had never met C Been working hard and didnt speak , Dm C Dm The sky was grey and threatened wet F C I dreamed that I saw Unicorns , Gm Dm Dreamed I saw them wild and white F Gm Their sudden beauty lit the world , Dm As a star would light a winters night D G D Pure as love with manes of milk G A They danced and pranced and sang aloud G G D Bright as rainbows round the sun C G D Dm Their eyes were soft and sad and proud Dm Then I wept for the wild and dirty world To which this beauty now was lost. And cursed the hungry mind of man That feeds the future at such cost. My head was bowed, my eyes were closed, While in my ears their voices rang,mD And these few words lodged deep inside And in my very soul they sang .... D "We never went away, You always knew that we were near. Remember how to look for us, You'll see we were always here." Dm I raised my eyes to seek them out, The world was empty all around. The rain came tumbling from the sky. It drowned all dreams upon the ground. And when they asked me why I wept, Like one who for his dead love mourns, The only answer I could give - I dreamed that there were unicorns. D "We never went away, You always knew that we were near. Remember how to look for us, You'll see we were always here."^^^ |
