I heard that sung at an Open Sing by a gal singer, member of "Hot Soup," whose name* -- not joking -- escapes me at the moment. I was under the impression that SHE wrote it, and that it was new. Is it "in distribution" yet (has it been performed and recorded, etc.)? Anyway, it's a somewhat forgettable song.

And as for the Ronald Reagan National airport, who says Americans have no sense of irony?

The other night I heard on New Hampshire Public Radio's Folk show a song about losing one's mind to the tune of Last Thing on My Mind. Does anyone have the words? I've checked the Digitrad with no luck (or else I just don't know how...) The chorus was

or something like that. I'd hardly dare sing it--I might forget the words!

The "Last Thing on My Mind" pardoy is by Sue Trainor of the group "Hot Soup!" If I remember correctly, Tom Paxton himself sings back-up on that cut on their new recording, "Soup Happens" If you go to their website http://members.aol.com/hotsoup3/index.html, you'll find out all about them. I can't wait to tell Sue someone asked about this song. Sue is a local performer and I can say "I knew her when". At least for a while eventually CRS will ruin that. Sue has been doing parodies for quite a while. The group "Hot Soup" is a truly wonderful female trio with a wonderful blend of humor, love songs, and even some 40's swing.

Sue was invited to Tom Paxton's 60th (?) birthday party. He lives near DC. One suggested gift was a parody of a Tom Paxton tune and the above song was her production.

If you get a chance to see Sue or Hot Soup, please go. I've invested in their CD's as a backer and I'd love to get my money back!

Roger's story about the creation of the parody is correct, and Tom does sing on the song. When I asked him for permission to record it, he said "Go ahead. Trash a legend." ; )

"Guest" had the lyrics right -- sorry for my poor enunciaton, there. : (

I have a new parody, about to debut, that I think is as good as "Last Thing." We'll do it at Avalon FF (if I remember the words). (Hint -- it has to do with cyber acquisition addiction.) If you like this sort of thing -- and the way my evil brain twists around a song -- my solo album ("In A Closeup" is full of 'em.

It wasn't an enunciation problem, Sue. Even with the internet sound on my Real Player, I could tell what the sounds were. It was a word recognition problem. My first shot at transcription had that line as "Whose farm gallowgin bean seed a-blowing." Knew it sounded like something I should recognize, but it took me a while to figure out that it was a list of brand names.
Neat parody. I like it!
Do I have your permission to pass it along, and can we add it to the database here?
And is it Jim Beam or Jim Bean anyway (says the beer drinker)?

Ha har, so it's down to you Rusty is it, someone (I can't remember who)passed me the lyrics to the song a number of months ago and I now regularly sing it when out and about.
I slightly muppettised it though.

To 'I can name the West Indies winning world cup team'.
it goes down quite well and a number say by eck I can identify with those lyrics, it's a bit scary.
