Subject: RE: Alzeimer's parody of From: Songster Bob Date: 26 Feb 98 - 03:01 PM I heard that sung at an Open Sing by a gal singer, member of "Hot Soup," whose name* -- not joking -- escapes me at the moment. I was under the impression that SHE wrote it, and that it was new. Is it "in distribution" yet (has it been performed and recorded, etc.)? Anyway, it's a somewhat forgettable song. And as for the Ronald Reagan National airport, who says Americans have no sense of irony?
* Aha! It's Sue Trainor! |

Subject: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: CamiSu Date: 27 Jul 00 - 12:13 AM The other night I heard on New Hampshire Public Radio's Folk show a song about losing one's mind to the tune of Last Thing on My Mind. Does anyone have the words? I've checked the Digitrad with no luck (or else I just don't know how...) The chorus was Are they going away with no word of farewell? Will there be no idea left behind? I used to be a genius but now today I find I can't recall the last thing on my mind.... or something like that. I'd hardly dare sing it--I might forget the words! Complete CRS! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: Charlie Baum Date: 27 Jul 00 - 12:01 PM The "Last Thing on My Mind" pardoy is by Sue Trainor of the group "Hot Soup!" If I remember correctly, Tom Paxton himself sings back-up on that cut on their new recording, "Soup Happens" If you go to their website http://members.aol.com/hotsoup3/index.html, you'll find out all about them. If you click here, it will take you to the listing of their album, where a real audio link will play at least a bit of the song. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 28 Jul 00 - 03:47 PM I can't wait to tell Sue someone asked about this song. Sue is a local performer and I can say "I knew her when". At least for a while eventually CRS will ruin that. Sue has been doing parodies for quite a while. The group "Hot Soup" is a truly wonderful female trio with a wonderful blend of humor, love songs, and even some 40's swing. Sue was invited to Tom Paxton's 60th (?) birthday party. He lives near DC. One suggested gift was a parody of a Tom Paxton tune and the above song was her production. If you get a chance to see Sue or Hot Soup, please go. I've invested in their CD's as a backer and I'd love to get my money back! Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: GUEST,Sue Trainor Date: 28 Jul 00 - 05:10 PM Thanks for your kind words, everybody! (Who's Bert? ; ) And thanks Roger -- your checks will keep arriving; the computer remembers. (Roger has been a musical inspiration to me for many years -- that _I_ remember!) Roger's story about the creation of the parody is correct, and Tom does sing on the song. When I asked him for permission to record it, he said "Go ahead. Trash a legend." ; ) "Guest" had the lyrics right -- sorry for my poor enunciaton, there. : ( I have a new parody, about to debut, that I think is as good as "Last Thing." We'll do it at Avalon FF (if I remember the words). (Hint -- it has to do with cyber acquisition addiction.) If you like this sort of thing -- and the way my evil brain twists around a song -- my solo album ("In A Closeup" is full of 'em. "Twist the night away," as they say! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: Barbara Date: 28 Jul 00 - 11:25 PM It wasn't an enunciation problem, Sue. Even with the internet sound on my Real Player, I could tell what the sounds were. It was a word recognition problem. My first shot at transcription had that line as "Whose farm gallowgin bean seed a-blowing." Knew it sounded like something I should recognize, but it took me a while to figure out that it was a list of brand names. Neat parody. I like it! Do I have your permission to pass it along, and can we add it to the database here? And is it Jim Beam or Jim Bean anyway (says the beer drinker)? Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Jul 00 - 11:38 PM Jim Beam Barbara.........A nice Kentucky bourbon, affordable, and a nice companion to Jack Daniels, a bit smokier though. Thanks SUE for coming in and giving us some input. Come back anytime, lots of Mudcat net junkies here. Being a fine parody writer, you should check some of the original songs and parodies in Aine's Mudcat Songbook. Its under the Quick Links at the top of the page. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: GUEST,Sue Trainor Date: 29 Jul 00 - 10:34 AM Sure! I'm happy for you to include the lyrics in database! I figure I earn brownie points in the universe for every giggle I provoke. ; ) And I definitely WILL check the Mudcat database to enhance my repertoire; thanks for pointing that out! We're off for a concert near Altoona, PA this evening. Cheers! Sue |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: CRS parody of Last Thing on My Mind From: Bert Date: 14 Aug 00 - 05:14 PM Hi Sue! Welcome to Mudcat. We need more people here who have a sense of humour. Who's Bert INDEED, Bert is the guy who wrote the book on CRS, well I would have done if I could have remembered, just ask Spaw he'll tell you. Actually I'm quite surprised that he didn't already. He must be slipping, the poor old fart. Well to answer your question sensibly, I saw you at a house concert for the Philadelphia Folk Song Society a while back. Just in case you remember, I'm a tall guy who played such gems as "Plastic Flower Seeds" and "Size Doesn't Matter". Bert. |

Subject: RE: need copyright info - 'Waltzing With Bears' From: Rog Peek Date: 01 May 07 - 06:46 PM On his 2003 UK tour, Tom Paxton included an extra verse which somebody had found on the internet and sent to him. It went something like this: Well I met this young girl at a folk club, Like you do, like you do. So I bought her a drink and we chatted, Wouldn't you, wouldn't you. And then after the show she invited me home, And she said we were two of a kind, Then she played me every record That Tom Paxton ever made, And you know that was the last thing on my mind. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: alzheimer parody of Last Thing On My From: GUEST Date: 02 May 07 - 05:24 AM Here's one that might work better for UK audiences........ ^^ THE LAST THING ON MY MIND There's no lesson I'm capable of learning, 'Cos my mind's on the blink I always hope that my memory's returning, But I'm too old, I think. When I go to the kitchen I look round in fear, Am I here to get coffee or beer? I look around for clues but there's nothing I can find, I'm searching for the last thing on my mind. As I drive in my car in the morning, Where to go? I just don't know. A suspicion is gradually forming, That my mind's working slow. Was I going to the station, or was it the bank? Oh, why has the last hour gone blank? I try to remember, but it's hopeless, I find. I can't recall the last thing on my mind. I had reasons a-plenty for going, What they were I just can't say. Now my panic is rapidly growing, I've been in Tesco's all day. Did I come to buy sugar, is it cabbage I need? Was it Oxos or budgerigar seed? I did make out a list, but I've left it behind. Whatever was the last thing on my mind? I know the capital of Texas is Austin, I know Morocco's is Rabat, I can name Southampton's winning FA cup team, Just how sad is that? But don't ask me to tell you what I did yesterday, For my memory has drawn down the blind, I used to get upset, now I'm becoming resigned To searching for the last thing on my mind. I |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: alzheimer parody Senile Aging Man From: GUEST,Lin Date: 10 May 14 - 09:43 AM In a similar vein, does anyone have the lyrics to a parody of Secret Agent Man, titled Senile Aging Man? I heard this sung at New England Folk Festival in April 2014- parody was tremendously funny, but I can't locate lyrics via search engines. Was hoping to sing it at a 60th birthday party. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: alzheimer parody of Last Thing On My Mind From: GUEST,muppett Date: 12 May 14 - 10:50 AM Ha har, so it's down to you Rusty is it, someone (I can't remember who)passed me the lyrics to the song a number of months ago and I now regularly sing it when out and about. I slightly muppettised it though. Changing Tesco to Morrisons and Changing the line 'I can name the Southampton winning FA Cup team' To 'I can name the West Indies winning world cup team'. it goes down quite well and a number say by eck I can identify with those lyrics, it's a bit scary. Well done Rusty I can now Acknowledge you as the Author. Cheers Muppett |
