A friend of mind wants to start playing dobro while standing. It seems there is a strap arrangement that holds the strap away from the nut. Any advice on where to acquire such a strap. Thanks.

dw, I'll chec with my friend David C. about this. Then, when the finer points are discovered, you can have your friend ask Bill Sables to make a strap for him.

dw, My Dobro has a slotted headstock. I use a piece of chord (a shoestring actually) tied from the end of the strap through the headstock. This has worked for me for a long time.

Hi dwditty. Using the strap on the dobro is a bit tricky. I just use an extra long strap attached to the MIDDLE of the peghead (so there's clearance to pick at the first fret)

Here's something you might try. Not all the dobro players do it but I like it..stick your right arm UNDER the strap. It holds everything real tight (but some find it hard on the arm)

Good luck

AHA! What Rick said is what our dobro player did, (til we lost him). I have been trying to remember, and that is it. It also seems to stabilize the dobro and keep it from swinging in/out as he played, because he could adjust the tension on the strap with his right arm. He also had a slotted headstock, and used a piece of leather shoe lace to fasten the strap to the headstock. Also, have you looked at Elderly for a dobro strap? Between them Elderly and Lark (in the Morning) have almost everything anyone could want.
