I used to visit him when I went home on holiday but he moved his shop a number of years ago and I kind of lost touch. The drum he made for me (I bought it initially for the look of it) sounds beautiful. It still has the goat's hair around one side of it and I thought it would not be taken too seriously as an instrument. But as I said it sounds great its got a big deep sound to it and a copy of Jim Fitzpatricks painting of Cuchullainn, drawn by Eamonn on the front. I also bought sonme bones and a beautiful blackthorn stick that he'd finished. He had some great sessions in his shop years ago when some of the local lads came down to sign on the dole. There'd be a couple of pipers, a few flute and fiddle players and of course Eamonn himself who is a great drummer in his own right. If you see him Annroi tell him I said hello from Canada. Den |

Alison on the music Mark on the pints :-)) Alison is great on the flute and whistle, harmonising with others, lifting the music and simply doing her own thing and having fun. Everyone here said they want her back the following week. I'm hoping she can make the 20th back in Carrick. If you ever get the chance to meet Alison and Mark in the flesh take it - they are a lovely couple - not what you hear about people from Oz :-)) I also got to meet Annraoi who also played guitar and sang - he just lives down the road from me and hopefully he will be back to Carrick in the future. Achill was cold, wet, and very very beautiful..... mountains, sea, heather, bog land and peat water streams.... hard to beat...... back in Belfast for just over a week then off to California....... Spent today around Armagh, found Brian Boru's grave (well as ar as they know anyway!!).... and climbed Navan fort (Eaman Macha.... I'm sure I spelt that wrong)...... and found a great faery ring there........ now the kids are full of stories about faeries.... they are having a great time....... I thought of you and waved. the rest of you I waved.... but you didn't wave back!!! *grin* as we flew down over the US we had brilliant clear skies, and fantastic views. We saw the Rockies, and one of the Great Lakes, (so I waved to all the Canadians and blew a kiss to a certain big spud carrying Mick)*grin*.... excues my pathetic grip of US geography... if I get places in completely the wrong order.... either it is my confusion or the pilot was taking the scenic route.... then we flew over Colorado and Salt Lake City.... strange sitting at so many thousand feet looking at place names on a map and thinking... so and so from Mudcat lives somewhere near here..... It was a very nice sensation... to know that you were all down there somewhere... just in case we crashed.. so I could have somewhere to sleep...... I had a fantastic time with the Mudcatters I did get to meet... someday I hope to meet more of you for real..... I had a wonderful time... but now it's nice to be back... slainte alison |
