Subject: Tales from a riverbank
From: Brendy
Date: 01 Sep 00 - 05:44 AM

..... into the river, and is walking back up the bank to the campfire, where he and a few of his mates have been sitting. They are about to make some coffee.
They look out at the view.
Brendy gets the long Rizlas out, as one of his mates spoons the Douwe Egberts java (which he most diligently bought in the Duty Free shop), into the coffee pot, and it's not long before the conversation turns to more aesthetic ponderings.

"Looks like rain", said Brendy. "The sky has a foreboding look about her, and if I'm not wrong, it'll be the lash of the storm we'll feel, before we once again are in the proximity of a dacent spud."
"And, sure, isn't it a bad sign when the ducks are in the nettles?", a friend chimed in.

Suddenly there is a clap of thunder, and their eyes shift up river to the Conradian Dam; a tall, imposing structure, built in recent years to supply one house with all it's sanitary needs. "They didn't like the idea of the dam at the time, did they? It displaced many peaceful communities, who only wished to be left in peace.", said one of the lads.
"Yes, but this is a democracy, after all, and every person has the right to pursue happiness, I suppose.", said Brendy.
"Ah well, not to worry. Have you got that tape with you, of the Copenhagen gigs?"
"Don't have the cassette, but I have a blue clicky thing that will lead you to a website where you can download a few songs, if you want"
"Do you think Conrad will listen to them?" Another friend got up to take the coffee off the heat.
"Well if he does, at least I'll have the pleasure of knowing that he came to my place, and paid the taxi fare".

Brendy took out his mouse and was just about to point it at the clicky, when yer man said.

"Do we really have to drink this coffee with all the dead frogs, and snails, and bits of wood, in it?"
"It's the way Conrad would have wanted it.", said Brendy, exhaling.
"Oh."

Er... Brendy.... is it time for your medication or mine?? *BG*

I've drunk coffee like that - hell, I used to SELL coffee like that!

Thanks for the mindpicture, off camping again this weekend, way out of proximity of a dacent spud, will watch out for rouge blue clicky things and democratic dams.

A Bhrendy,

It's a great page you've got there. So, is this a permanent page, and may I link it to my own, please?

And to all of you who have to abide with a slow modem -- Believe me, it'll be well worth the wait. Brendy's a fantastic musician and you'll all be left wanting more, I guarantee!

Dipped his wick, at least that's positive. I keep seeing it and thinking "dipped his bucket" is a half step away from "dipped his canoe in the Jordan" and I afrad I'm about to read an obit.

Better than kicked the bucket, which would be tragic and is probably why so many of them have holes.

I think, on the whole, it's time for my medication. Off camping in a wood tonight, complete with midges, rose bushes and four year old...... child that is, not alcohol....although there is a bottle of sloe gin that should be ready by now.....

Enjoy.

First of all, my apologies for the long download time; I know the files are a bit big, but frankly, I don't trust anything under 200 kbps, and 192kbps was as low as I could 'safely' let it go at.
And I want to thank you all for taking that time to do it. I know internet time can be expensive, and that net congestion can add frustration onto the top of that. So fair play to youse!

And you liked them as well!

Well, I suppose it was my turn to run the gauntlet, and risk the musical eggs and tomatoes, and say, "Well, yeah, this is some of the stuff I'm into, bum notes and all" So thanks for not pasting me, as well.

Áine, I'm not sure where that page will go. It will certainly be there for the forseeable future. As you know I'm experimenting with this 'website thing', and in a way that site is a bit of practice for me, and a place to store bits of info, bookmarks etc. So bookmark it by all means, and if I change it, I will let you know in good time. I'm going to put a few more recordings on that site, as and when I get my ass in order to do it; various studio bits, etc.

'My own stuff' will come later, I think, as there's a few musicians I need to contact for some of the backing. I don't want to 'put on display' something that I wouldn't be reasonably satisfied with.

I'll clean up some of the recordings, and eventually put them onto a CD. But I'll let youse know about that when it materialises.

Bill. I'm not aware of any web page for Mick's place; I've done a bit of a search, and not turned up anything, but his pub is mentioned in the CTW guide to pubs in Copenhagen. He could be the man you're thinking of. His pub is well known on the circuit, as, of course, is he.

To those who have had trouble downløoading the files, I can only hope that someone else can come in and give better advice as to how to get the file(s) as far as your computer. I've had no problems any time I went back to check the integrity of the links, but I have a cable connection, and it may be easier for me. Thanks again, for your patience, and your appreciation.

Enjoyed 'Black is the colour' very much, Brendy, played it through several times, thank you. But when I tried another file my accelerated download told me it was going to take 325 hours..... I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate!!! I'll try again another time, well worth it.

Sorry about that, Metchosin. I don't know what could have caused that. But I hope you'll succeed in getting them (if you want to take the chance again!!).

Indeed, John. 'I dont want to know (about evil)' is a John Martyn song. There's a few versions on as many albums by John, but my favourite is the version on 'No Little Boy'.

Noreen: 325 hrs? Nothing's worth that much!!
I'll give them a twist this week and see if I can trim the size down without losing too much of the output.

Thanks again.

Just thought I'd mention that Brendy is featured singing an acoustic version of ``Black Is The Colour´´,playing ``Madame Bonapate´´,and singing``Coinleach Glas An Fhomhair´´on a compulation Cd. produced in Oslo by me.
It's Called ``Oslo Sessions 1995´´.
Really good versions!! Greetings John(from Norway).

The ``Sessions´´Cd was only printed in 1000 ex.
I'm the producer, and all sales went through me.
I use the past tense because we are currently sold out.
They were just sold down the pub when we had our sessions.
I took 26 of the musicians, who usually play at the sessions, to a studio near me.
We recorded 25 tracks of pure acoustic music(no one plugged anything in),even the bass was an acoustic bass, borrowed from a shopand played in through a mic.
There is a strong possibility of a reprint so I'll keep you informed.
Greetings John.

Yo, all!

Yeah. John was talking about re-printing the CD, and giving it another airing, Aine.
I know that he plans to tell the story of the organising of it all, and post it onto a website. I'll be putting a page up shortly on my site which will deal with my involvement in the project.

And yes, Michael. Brendy is most definately a fella's name, around my parts. Us Norn'ers like to abbreviate a bit, and Brendan regularly gets shortened to Brendy.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make the MP3s a bit smaller; Zipping then doesn't seem to reduce the size by any great amount. So I'm still open to suggestion.

Thanks for all the PMs also, folks. It was a good week-end there in Kobenhavn (as always), and I'm glad you liked the interim results.
I WILL be compiling a CD from the two gigs, and I should have that all together after I return from Ireland (End Nov.).

B.
