OK I'm showing some bias regarding the last two, but they, particularly Mandolirium, cook big time! |

From: CarolC Date: 24 Sep 00 - 10:38 PM I don't have a favorite band, but I want to put a plug in here for my friends Sharon Hall, Jeff Esko, and John Grayhor of "Morning Star Consort". These people are excellent, and they do have a CD out called "Slightly Tweaked". I don't think they have a web page up and running yet, but a good description of them can be found here. Carol |
Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Jim the Bart Date: 24 Sep 00 - 10:40 PM Ballpark Franks Oops! That's my favorite hot dog. Picking a band is a lot tougher. I like to listen to Salamander Crossing a lot. I also like the Desert Rose Band; their greatest hits package is a marvel. I also like Little Village, but that's cheating because they're really four of my favorite individual musicians all playing together. I also like Best Kosher - oh no, that's hot dogs again. Sorry. |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Jim the Bart Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:31 AM Yes, Desert Rose has both Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, which brings me to another favorite - the Dillards. And this brings me to another favorite, long gone but not forgotten, Dillard and Clark. That is Doug Dillard and Gene Clark, which brings me back to the Byrds. Back in college (the first time), there were three groups that were extremely influential - The Byrds, the Buffalo Springfield and Moby Grape. All heavy on harmony and major key guitar licks. I have always had a soft spot in my head for jangly guitar; the Beatles and the Hollies sere right at the top of that kind of music (along with the Byrds, again). It seems that you find the descendants of that kind of music in the country/country rock field these days. Desert Rose is just that kind of band. Let me throw one more out there - The ArcAngels out of Austin, Texas. Stevie Ray's rhythm section and two great singer/guitarists. This is hard hitting stuff. oh yeah, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Kim C Date: 25 Sep 00 - 10:44 AM The Beatles are my all-time favorite. There are so many others that I like, it's hard to pick a current favorite... I dig the Chieftains, Cherish the Ladies, Great Big Sea, the Voice Squad... there's just too many! |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Lepus Rex Date: 25 Sep 00 - 11:23 PM Odd... I don't listen to so many 'bands' anymore; mostly 'solo' performers these days. My current list of my favourite bands off all time, in random order: The Sugarcubes, GWAR, Bikini Kill, Szeki Kurva/The Fighting Cocks, Garmarna, Iron Maiden, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Motörhead, Death Piggy, Trip Shakespeare, Brave Combo, Hoven Droven, S.O.D., Dead Kennedys, JPP, Sleater-Kinney, Huun Huur Tu, old Megadeth, Triakel, Shonen Knife, Yat-Kha (especially the first one I bought, a REALLY strange self-titled cd with just Albert Kuvezin and Ivan Sokolovsky), Luna, and Whale. I guess. ---Lepus Rex |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: SteveMansfield Date: 04 Aug 13 - 07:37 AM Long-term, no contest, Blowzabella. The Old Dance School of the comparitively new 'uns. Very envious of Rog getting to see LAPD, they sounded every bit as good as you'd expect on The BBC Folk Show That Must Not Be Named and I look forward to the proposed album. All in all it doesn't matter really does it - the variety is what makes the music special. |
