From: Amergin Date: 08 Aug 13 - 12:23 AM I dunno...I use to wear head bands many years ago....to help keep my hair from my eyes....I have this wrist band my daughter gave me one year for Father's Day....I don't wear it often because I'm afraid to lose it. I do like it though... |
Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 07 Aug 13 - 02:51 PM Thanks for that link, Jim. That was a hot band and it's good to see a clawhammer banjo out front. Cathy Fink is one of the best. |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Claire M Date: 07 Aug 13 - 11:36 AM Hiya, I'd love another gig. Stables closest & best for me. Looking forward to cd too. How Terry Pratchett passed me by for so long I don't know. Steeleye have never led me wrong. I think I get him more now cos my tastes have reverted & I recognise the words he uses, & the description of the Chalk was so similar to the way I grew up I had tears in my eyes. Seen quite a few Morris dancers too but didn't appreciate them cos I didn't really get what they were dancing for -- luckily I know quite a few fans so I'm covered for his books. |
Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Bobert Date: 06 Aug 13 - 08:31 PM Yeah, Shimbo Darktree, Dr. Hook is right up there with the best bands... The songs were great and the vocals were, too... Me??? I'm an ol' rocker... Humble Pie, hands down... B~ |
Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: GUEST,eldergirl Date: 06 Aug 13 - 08:25 PM Oh, yes. True love never dies! A good song finely crafted and played will go on forever. Even if their later stuff doesn't quite cut the mustard, their songs that first grabbed your heart away will never lose that magic! Uh, is that grammatical? Pfft. Too bad .. |
Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Claire M Date: 06 Aug 13 - 01:48 PM Hiya, I've dreamt of fav bands before; the members mostly pop up to give me advice, w/ them introducing themselves saying "I am ____/we are ____" & my shocked/pleased response being "are you really?! Are you sure?".For something that never actually happened they haven't ½ been vivid. This topic got me thinking; I've always seen love for bands like being in a relationship. They cheer you up; they comfort you when it's needed; they keep you going. When/if you dump them for a few years can you still say they're favourites |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: GUEST,eldergirl Date: 05 Aug 13 - 01:04 PM Then: the Beatles, the Byrds till Gene Clark left, then loads of individual songs/recordings by anyone who caught my ear, till I discovered Crowded House and fell in love with their stuff. Now: Cupola are brilliant! I recommended them to my home town folk club after seeing them and getting their CD at a festival 2 or 3 yrs ago, but as often happens they ignored me (sulk) but now I see Cupola are linked with Lucy Ward, so local fc even less likely to afford them now.. Shame. That'd be a great night! |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Claire M Date: 04 Aug 13 - 02:15 PM Hiya, Somebody was going to take me to the Cambs Folk Fest but I knew any sort of festival would be a problem, so never bothered making a habit of checking who was on. Who should be on this year but Steeleye! My love for them knows no bounds; my love of any sort of fantasy, old fashioned language & the Latin fetish I seem to have stems from them; & my favourite legend would have to be the one of the Nokken/the Sirens. Caught up via iPlayer; they played 'I Shall Wear Midnight' – will never forget hearing that for the 1st time. I cried so much my face was as red as my dress & all blotchy. Peter Knight was looking right at me as he changed I to WE. Couldn't stay off the loo for about a week beforehand (I never can anyway but this was even worse) The woman who came w/ me to see Maddy Prior on her own was so bored she kept playing w/ her phone As for the Quartet – originally went for Martin Simpson, he was good but MQ were as Steeleye-ish as could be, the women even sounded similar to Maddy, the sort of high, loud singing she does; I was disappointed when they left for Simpson to come on! Their version of 'Bright Morning Star' had me sobbing & shaking (had heard it by Steeleye 1st) |

Very envious of Rog getting to see LAPD, they sounded every bit as good as you'd expect on The BBC Folk Show That Must Not Be Named and I look forward to the proposed album. All in all it doesn't matter really does it - the variety is what makes the music special. |

Subject: RE: Who is your favorite band ??? From: Jim the Bart Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:31 AM Yes, Desert Rose has both Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, which brings me to another favorite - the Dillards. And this brings me to another favorite, long gone but not forgotten, Dillard and Clark. That is Doug Dillard and Gene Clark, which brings me back to the Byrds. Back in college (the first time), there were three groups that were extremely influential - The Byrds, the Buffalo Springfield and Moby Grape. All heavy on harmony and major key guitar licks. I have always had a soft spot in my head for jangly guitar; the Beatles and the Hollies sere right at the top of that kind of music (along with the Byrds, again). It seems that you find the descendants of that kind of music in the country/country rock field these days. Desert Rose is just that kind of band. Let me throw one more out there - The ArcAngels out of Austin, Texas. Stevie Ray's rhythm section and two great singer/guitarists. This is hard hitting stuff. oh yeah, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. |
