The winner may just be Richard Nixon's 1972 "Committee to Re-elect the President, otherwise known as...

CREEP

Then there was the recently formed Canadian Conservative Alliance Reform Party...

CCRAP (they later changed it, because it became the butt of so many jokes)

And then my favourite...At the time of Pearl Harbor the top US Navy command was called...

CINCUS

(pronounced "sink us")

They changed that one too, not long after the Dec 7 Japanese attack.

This is a parody of a famous acronym, PETA - People for the Eating of Tasty Animals. Displayed most commonly as "bumper stickers" on pickup trucks driven by guys that look like they might whistle at Chrissie Hynde.

That reminds me...my cousin Karen (from DC) was and is a very serious vegetarian and animal rights advocate. She had a bumper sticker that read:

LOVE ANIMALS
DON'T EAT THEM

Her older sister, Stephanie, sneaked out one night with a razor blade and removed the word "Don't" so that it read: LOVE ANIMALS
EAT THEM

Karen drove around for a week or two before she noticed. Boy, was she ever mad!!!

Geez, I'm committing thread creep on my own thread...

The local school district here is Fairfield-Union and when it first formed there was a big push amongst the kids at taht time to be called the "Charging Knights."

The acronym isn't funny, but there is a part on most automotive engines to reduce nitrous oxide emissions by lowering combustion temperature through injecting exhaust gas back into the chambers reducing the amount of squelch area....In any case, its called an EGR valve, meaning Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Now if you were to install one of those on your ass..............

In WWII England the commander of the womens aux. at any command was refered to as the "Senior Officer, Women" or S.O.W. When this blooper was pointed out to the upper echelon, they issued an order to the effect that the designation, "Senior Officer, Women" was to be immediately changed to" Chief Officer, Women".

I am told this is a true story. Several years ago a new college was founded in the Sheffield area which was called the Sheffield and Hallamshire Institute of Technology and new note paper was duly ordered and the logo was the initials of the college. Needless to say this was changed when the paper arrived bearing the word SHIT blzened accross the top!!

Anyone seen that new comic "Get Fuzzy", with the skinny guy, his dog Satchel, and his psychotic Siamese cat, Bucky? It's a hoot! I love it!

Anyway, the skinny guy (can't remember his name) often wears a teeshirt emblazoned with the University crest "LOWE TECH". I like that one. I wonder just what it stands for?

Back in the 60's, you used to see a lot of teeshirts with "F.U.C.K. U." printed on them, of course, in the usual big letters.

Very decent of the British high command to change "sow" to "cow". Har! Har!

I like Chrissie Hynde too! Owoooo!!!.....and she likes Dylan.

Oh, heck. Exacerbate away. We're all master exacerbators around here anyway...

When I was in college and was surrounded by all the sorority chicks and was a drama major all got up in black turtleneck and reading Sartre and Hesse and simply could NOT be bothered by all that foo-foo pink sorority girl crap, I had a sweatshirt made up for my OWN sorority: Gamma Delta Iota.

Very few put together that it was G.D.I., for "Goddamned Independent..."

Within a year half of them had donned black turtlenecks of their own and were dropping acid and turned those great organizational skills toward anti-war moritoria anyway ...

Those of you who have read or posted to the "40 things you won't hear a Southern boy say" will have read (or skipped) my narrative about the statue of Robert E. Lee that is in New Orleans... He is facing north and a YMCA building has been directly opposite the monument for years... Friend told me that the local story goes that General Lee is facing the building with his eyes turned north cause he thinks YMCA stands for (Y)ankees (M)ight (C)ome (A)gain

I once worked for an organise which, after restructuring, called its PR Unit "Strategic Promotions Unit". It was quickly changed to "Strategic Development".

At University there was a club called "Student League Against Garfield" (that's the cat Garfield).

And the Graduate Diploma of Arts Management acronym is a good curse to have up your sleeve when you miss the bus on the way to lectures.

My favourite acronym is AAA: Australian Association for Acronyms.

Not precisley an acronym, but in the search for a license "call sign", urban legend has it that the University of North Texas almost signed up for one with the standard format. This is (west of the mississippi anyway) the letter K and then the three letter initials of the university, in this case UNT. put 'em all together and you get...(miss-spelled expletive deleted)

I heard form a colleague who worked in HR at Essex County Council that a group of ten staff and consultants were put up for a week in posh hotel to come up with a nice little acronym that would signify the type of workers we are.

The original list of catch words

Supportive
Passionate
Effective
Responsive
Motivated

Read down the left side of that list.

It later became

Passionate
Responsive
Innovative
Supportive
Motivating

all in colours of the rainbow.

I wish they had stuck with SPERM.
