Subject: Zulu King - another version (also Thais) From: GUEST,Liland (still a guest) Date: 02 Oct 00 - 01:01 AM My Thais Page has, below Thais, a version of the Zulu King song that differs in some details (but nothing major) from the one in the Digitrad.

Subject: RE: Zulu King - another version From: GUEST,Liland Date: 02 Oct 00 - 08:35 PM I think (95% sure, I'd say) I learned it as a kid from Dick & Beth Best's 1954 (my birth year) edition of Song Fest, where it appeared with no attribution or copyright notice. The info on the Digitrad copy (which I first saw only a few months ago) was the first hint I ever had that it was neither anonymous nor in the public domain. I'm going to do a little independent research before updating my page in that regard. Liland |
Subject: RE: Zulu King - another version From: Metchosin Date: 02 Oct 00 - 09:19 PM Liland, where in the DT did you find the copy with an attribution? I can only find one without. I learned this song from my mother and she was singing it prior to my birth in 1946. However the words we sing are different still and we call our version the Cannibal King. It has no kissy noises in it
THE CANNIBAL KING
His dusky miss
Chorus:
As the years went by like one two three
As the years went by like one two three The last two verses I found at a camp song site a few months back but the first two and the chorus is what my mother sang.

Subject: RE: Zulu King - another version From: GUEST,Liland Date: 03 Oct 00 - 06:42 PM Sorry, it was Thais, not A Zulu King, that has an attribution in the DT; I was replying to Allan S's question about where I'd learned Thaïs. Liland |
Subject: RE: Zulu King - another version From: GUEST Date: 08 Apr 08 - 04:30 PM Wow!! I'm so happy to find these lyrics. I looked after an amazing lady from youg age of 100 till she past away at 102. She would sing the first verse and get stumped on the chorus. thanks for having this posted. Bre |
