Subject: the girl who stood beside me From: GUEST,txjohn@hotmail.com Date: 18 Oct 00 - 09:23 PM Looking for the second verse of a great but obscure tune by Bobby Darin. Called "The Girl Who Stood Beside Me." First verse is thus:
Whose face did I see beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday-
Would appreciate any help. I played this song during a school talent show in 1966- we're having a reunion next year, and a couple of us old folkies are going to perform-I'd love to play it again. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: the girl who stood beside me From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Sep 02 - 09:48 PM Here's another snatch of lyrics transcribed from a sound sample at CDNOW. There seems to be at least one line still missing, however. THE GIRL WHO STOOD BESIDE ME (Stevens) ... mirror yesterday Who then gave a hand to me when I was tremblin' in the darkness yesterday Who then showed me all the nights and all the sights and all the lights just yesterday Who now shares my time and who now makes my bed Who now lies beside me who now holds my [head?]... |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE GIRL WHO STOOD BESIDE ME (J Stevens) From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Dec 11 - 02:07 PM THE GIRL WHO STOOD BESIDE ME Written by Jeffry Stevens As sung by Bobby Darin on "If I Were a Carpenter" (1966) Whose face did I see beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday? Whose eyes opened wide and who has tried to keep my spirits high through yesterday? Who now shares my life and tears whenever I cry? Who becomes my wife and fears the day I die? Who knows all my thoughts and every word I say? She's the girl who stood beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday. Who then gave a hand to me when I was trembling in the dark just yesterday? Who then showed me all the nights and all the sights and all the lights just yesterday? Who now shares my time and who now makes my bed? Who now lies beside me? Who now holds my head? Who knows all my thoughts and every word I say? She's the girl who stood beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday. Whose voice did I hear when bells were ringin' silent words that started singin' yesterday? Who then said, "Come sit beside me, oh my darlin'; don't deny me" yesterday? Who now shares my time and who now makes my bed? Who now lies beside me? Who now holds my head? Who knows all my thoughts and every word I say? She's the girl who stood beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday. Yes, the girl who stood beside me when I looked into the mirror yesterday. |
