Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Nov 00 - 08:47 PM Well, we have a Weimaraner. Its a German word for "Stupid Ass Dog That Sleeps A Lot." He's a lovable boy though and the most docile of a gentle breed. He's a longhaired blue.....You can read about him and see a picture HERE, his breeder's site. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Mooh Date: 16 Nov 00 - 10:30 PM Springer spanial (father) and Scottish collie (mother). Maybe "spollie"? Looks much like a border collie but with skinny shoulders. Gentle, happy and active. Sleeping at my feet as I write this. Named Rosie, like her disposition. Technically she's my youngest daughter's dog but she behaves like I'm her whole universe. Loves green vegetables, like Popeye the puppie dog (remember Popeye the sailor man?). "She's strong to the finich 'cause she eats her spinich. She's Popeye the puppie dog." Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Gypsy Date: 16 Nov 00 - 10:44 PM Our old lady is labrador x aussie shepard: labherd, a dog that barks with an accent. (unfortunately, at her age, she doesn't really bark, just yells What, What, What? alot) |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: CarolC Date: 16 Nov 00 - 10:47 PM I don't currently have a dog. I'm contemplating some of the breed mixes in the original list. I used to have a Great Pyrenees. I'm having a lot of fun trying to imagine how a G.P. and a Dachshund could get it on! (A step ladder, maybe?) Carol |

Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque in Maine Date: 17 Nov 00 - 01:07 AM Angus McBAER and Maggie McGHEE are sibling "Yorkie-Poohs", a cross between Yorkshire Terrier and Toy Poodle. Collectively, they are known as the "Hooligans". I suspect that Maggie may be a "Poo-Vark", or poodle mixed with aardvark, as she loves to drive her 7-inch tounge up my nose into that little sinus cavity behind the eyeball (not bad for a 12-pound pooch; Baer is about 10 lbs.) whenever she gets a chance, like an anteater going after a fat termite deep in the anthill. Quite stimulating. They are occasionally refered to as "Wooley Boogers" for their dark (Mags mostly black, Baer black/rusty brown) lamb-like wooly coats that jiggle and bounce when they trot. I regularly pray that God might help me be worthy of at least half of my dog's affections. I can (and all to oft am) a complete loser all day.... but when I drag my sorry carcass in through the door at the end of it, my dogs still love me for some miraculous and unfathomable reason, seeming to care not a whit if I've earned it or not. Don't I wish there were a human being in my life half that stupid. Only God and Dogs seem capable of that sort of Love, it seems.... Thank God for dogs! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: BigDaddy Date: 17 Nov 00 - 01:13 AM Had to take our dog to the veterinarian ER a few years ago. She'd been stung by a bee and we found she was allergic, just as some people are. So it was off to the nearest animal ER (30 miles) at 1:00 am. Once there, they requested basic identification on her (name, breed, color, age, etc.). Never having given it much thought, I gave her color as tan and her breed as "mutt." A couple of hours later, as she was released, I was presented with a bill for $105.00 on which she was now described as a "Golden Mixed Breed." We have had a number of laughs over her easy increase in status. My son can't understand why we never see that particular breed at dog shows or anywhere else. We tell him it's because it's a rare breed indeed. Cheers! |

He's a fine enough animal, and rather protective of the family, and like me, stubborn and a bit dense. Well, he's Irish okay? Anyhow, the breed of dog I have discovered is the Dalmation/Doberman, or, the Daldo. He is of NO use around the house, but man can he mow the lawn! Clifton

Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: katlaughing Date: 17 Nov 00 - 09:05 AM JTT, is the Irish Cockoodle a good alarm clock?**BG** These are great, phoaks, enjoying reading about the various breeds, mixes, and personalities. Keep them coming. My old dog, who had to be put down almost two years ago, was ½ Doberman & ½ German Shepherd/Alsatian. He was the mouthiest dog I've ever met, constantly talking, muttering, outright cussing. I guess if I mixed the Alsa with man he could've been an "I'll Say, Man!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Kim C Date: 17 Nov 00 - 10:06 AM A Newfoundland and a Poodle?!!!?!!! How does that happen? (I'm just going to assume it was a Standard Poodle and not a little one) I have a Norwegian Elkhound and a German Shepherd mutt we call the Murfreesboro Mix, cause that's where she came from. Her name is Belle but we have nicknamed her Miss Eleven - you Spinal Tap fans will know what that means. ;) |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Giac Date: 17 Nov 00 - 11:27 AM Emily, one-and-a-half years old, cream colored, short-haired, except for a thin ruff around her neck, giving her a Queen Victoria look. Small head, long body, long legs, weighs about 9 pounds; likes Pentium III commercials, Teletubbies and Marmite. According to the dog pound, she's half chihuahua and half pomeranian, therefore a Chiranian. I suppose if she'd had long hair she'd have been a Poma-who-uh. Hyper is too calm a word for her. My very elderly Spitz, who is deaf and nearly blind is not amused, but I believe it is Emily's annoyance factor that keeps Misty going -- and me, too. |

And our dog, tho she looks like an Aussie shepherd is really an Oregon Skunkhound. The fact that in her 10 years of life, she has not yet treed one, and spends most of her time tied to the back pasture fence by the growing pile of tomato juice cans has diminished her enthusiasm for her chosen lifestyle not one whit! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: JenEllen Date: 17 Nov 00 - 06:39 PM Mike's Aussie is actually a TwinkieHound. In her youth, she raided the neighborhood kids' lunches and ate the goodies. At 20yrs old now, she no longer has blood, she has cream filling. And with all the preservatives in her, we're beginning to wonder if she's ever going to die... Angus is Lab and Siberian Husky. Liberian Dorkhound. Short on brains and long on enthusiam.

Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Ely Date: 18 Nov 00 - 02:14 PM I am laughing SO hard! I have to email that list to my dog-owning friends! What do you call a person trapped in a dog's body? We got a dog from the pound last June that looked like a white coyote (her fur eventually grew back and she passes for an American Eskimo). She was so skinny and ugly when we got her that Mom named her "White Diamond" to make up for it. She was 4 1/2 and knew no commands, was not housebroken, did not know how to walk on a leash, did not respond to humans at all (didn't even beg from the refrigerator). Luckily, she does not appear to have been abused and turned out to be an exceptionally fast learner. We have to be careful what we do for her because if we make a concession once, she remembers and starts insisting that we do it all the time. We have since discovered that she doesn't know she's a dog. She "talks" to us when we talk to her, and she constantly tries to ask us for things or tell us what to do. She doesn't bark when she "talks", and it isn't really a growl, either, but a highly varied "rowr-rowr" noise. It's amusing but slightly creepy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Cobble Date: 20 Nov 00 - 02:03 PM Some years ago we had a dog from the animal shelter in York (UK). She was a very elegant spotty dog but not dalmation, it was difficult to tell what cross she was. When we attened dog shows with our Skyr Terriers we got quite a few comments about her, 'what sort of mutt is that','what sort of breed is that supposed to be', from the PURE BREED SNOBS. We loved her and she was as good as any pedigree dog, so we inveted a BREED for her. She became an Eboracum (Roman name for York) Acne Hund. We then got comments, 'Oh is that a new import from Germany, hope you do well with it'! Saddly she died last year at the age of thirteen. A rose by any other name! Mrs C. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: Melani Date: 20 Nov 00 - 02:24 PM I had a schnoodle for 18 years whose family were locally known as "Disney Dogs." Exceedlingly cute little hairy thing, with the personality of an alpha wolf. My husband called him the most fearless mammal he had ever seen--never met another dog he didn't want to either fight or make love to. Known for once attacking four male Dobermans (this was a 30-lb dog!), and on another occasion tried to go after three bears in Yellowstone Park, but was in the car at the time, so we simply drove away, as he snapped and snarled and tried to hurl his body through the window glass. We once pulled a 70-lb. Alsatian off his neck, and he tried to go back in with his neck still bleeding. Truly a dog only a mother could love--me, that is. His canine mother attacked him whenever she saw him. Runs in the family, I guess. Out of a lifetime of dogs, he's the one I'll remember when I die. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name Your Dog's Mixed Breed!! From: roopoo Date: 22 Nov 00 - 02:13 AM Got mine secondhand via the Yorkshire Post as a 5 month old Border Collie. I said, "She's not pure, is she?" and the kennel owner where she had been placed said, "I think there's some Dulux dog in there". (Old English, for those who don't see the ads for Dulux paints). Well, me, I thought I had a Border/Beardie cross, as she and her coat both grew. She has the classic black and white collie markings, lovely and symmetrical, just dusted with white in places, and with a real plume of a tail. But she can't prick her ears, and her coat is heavy, thick and wavy, with a thick undercoat. A few years ago I took pity and started to clip her short for the summer, and now I think she definitely does have Old English in her. So I THINK she is an Old English/Border. But it's now been 11 years, and I'm still not sure. I am sure it's all sheepdog of some sort! Daft as a brush too. There are some people I know in Scotland who have a lovely chocolate brown Coloodle called Lottie. She is a Collie/Poodle, and a lovely dog. Same size and build as mine (a bit tall for a collie), but with a wavy brown coat. Andrea |
