Lyrics are in DT, but shorty is down, and I can't get there to see if there is a "click to play" button..should be able to get the chords from that. Will try later.

thanks

This is the version I know. The chords are as I play them but I'm no expert. (Don't worry, there are plenty of THEM around) Bill

GLENCOE
(Jim McLean)

D G D
Oh, cruel was the snow that sweeps Glencoe
A7
And covers the grave o' Donald
D G D
Oh, cruel was the foe that raped Glencoe
G A D
And murdered the house of MacDonald

They came in a blizzard, we offered them heat
A roof for their heads, dry shoes for their feet
We wined them and dined them; they ate of our meat
And they slept in the house of MacDonald

They came from Fort William with murder in mind
The Campbell had orders King William had signed
"Put all to the sword"- these words underlined
"And leave none alive called MacDonald.”

They came in the night when the men were asleep
This band of Argyles, through snow soft and deep
Like murdering foxes amongst helpless sheep
They slaughtered the house of MacDonald

Some died in their beds at the hand of the foe
Some fled in the night and were lost in the snow
Some lived to accuse him who struck the first blow
But gone was the house of MacDonald.

MY COMMENTS
This is one of the songs that made me fall in love with folk music. I think I first heard it sang by The Corries and, as is typical of me, I never thought any other rendition measured up.

Like 'Danny Boy' and like many songs of beautiful simplicity and quality, every time you add to it, you also seem to take something away.

I have been to Glencoe and I have visited the Grave and the site where the old house stood.God damn why does English intervention in any matter in any nation they dont consider to be on par with them end in bloodshed? Scottish royalty of Irish descent slaughtered in their beds at night in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.Fuck you England, breaking the backs of nations by deceit, cowardice, malice and cloak and dagger tactics.Fuck you.
