Subject: Google eats Deja.com From: Burke Date: 13 Feb 01 - 08:15 PM Google Inc. has acquired Deja.com's Usenet Discussion Service, including its archive of more than 500 million messages--a terabyte of human conversation dating back to 1995. With a really bad local news feed, I've counted on Deja.com for my newsreading for ages. Deja is gone, at least temporarily & right now I don't know what I'll do to keep up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Google eats Deja.com From: Burke Date: 14 Feb 01 - 11:15 PM I think Goggle made changes between yesterday & today. Deja had gotten pretty hard to navigate but yesterday I could not find how to get to a specific group in Google. I found it earlier today, but at that point the group I wanted to read had nothing newer than 2 days ago. I just checked and I see some messages from today, so I think I just hit as they are getting going. I wonder if they'll allow posting messages. Right now all one can do is read. Ed & Bill thanks for the pointers to some alternatives. |
Subject: RE: BS: Google eats Deja.com From: Zebedee Date: 01 Mar 01 - 07:18 PM I checked back for the first time in about a week today. Whilst posting isn't yet available, it's muchimproved and they have provided a list of web based usenet providers Despite the short term inconvenience, I reckon Google's takeover is going to be great news in the long term. Clean, easy to use interfaces etc. Ed |
