Subject: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: FOG(Friend of Gnome) Date: 27 Feb 01 - 09:27 PM News just hits the Mudcat street outside. It could be the death of all allotment vegetable growers in the UK. A terrible new strain of veggy foot and mouth called rootus an stemicus has hit various plots in Lancashire Yorkshire and Northumberland. Growers are being instructed by the ministry of sound agriculture to stay in the pub and under no circumstances go back to their thinning out of cabbage seedlings(2nd early). I am sure I do not have to say any more to all agricultural Mudcatters everywhere. This represents a horrific reduction in scale of all old men on allotments globally. From India to LA, from Rossendale to the rockies the old guys growing the stuff will gradually get smaller and smaller till they can sell their stuff as baby vegetables in Safeway at 3 times the price. This must be nipped in the BUD Trusting in the family everywhere and always will. Phil |
Subject: RE: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: Sorcha Date: 27 Feb 01 - 09:32 PM The scary thing is, something like this could actually turn up, with all the gene manipulating going on.......I have been wondering if UK and Europe will turn into vegans over all this nastiness. (Mad Cow, anthrax, etc.) But then what would happen to RosBif and Yorkshire pud? Horrors, horrors........ |
Subject: RE: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: P Mitchell@work Date: 28 Feb 01 - 04:21 AM I'm unclear as to just how much beer to drink before I am free from risk of this disease. However, I do understand the need to clean your system when leaving your allotment by drinking EVERYTHING in your hip flask in onne fell swoop. Paul |

Subject: RE: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: Morticia Date: 28 Feb 01 - 02:39 PM Well, it's tough.....but if the Government are insisting we stay in the pub, well, who am I to gainsay them? I am assuming that flowers and apple trees in gardens carry the same risk, FOG? And if so, it's probably my round. |

Subject: RE: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: Sarah2 Date: 28 Feb 01 - 03:19 PM tiggerdooley, Surely fermentation destroys the virus/germ/abnormalities whilst cleaning the system and building up the antibodies. Or whatever. Subject: RE: New strain-vegetable foot and mouth. From: Steve Parkes Date: 01 Mar 01 - 03:33 AM I'm very worried about my meat & two veg. They were always nice and firm, but in recent weeks they seem to be getting soft and mushy. Do any 'Catters have tips on how to keep them healthy? Steve |
