Subject: Digitrad for Mac From: GUEST Date: 04 Apr 01 - 09:34 AM For what seems like a couple of years now the info that the new Digitrad for Mac is coming. Is there any more specific info on its arrival? The old version crashes current model machines running recent versions of the Mac OS. If its such a programming or logistical drama to keep up with OS changes how about just exporting the thing to a runtime version of Filemaker pro, at least we'd have the data base. Thanks folks. |
Subject: RE: Digitrad for Mac From: Amos Date: 04 Apr 01 - 10:41 AM Hell, Max, we'd take .csv! At least we could import it. It would be an unwieldy file but we could handle it. How's about making good on that ancient assertion about the Mac version? I'll write you a new song for your very own!
You haven't heard an adaptation of "Let's Go Fishing" recently, have you? BTW? A |

Subject: RE: Digitrad for Mac From: Garry Gillard Date: 06 Apr 01 - 09:58 AM I HAD an old version which I used to run on a 6100 or maybe even a Classic or something, but I believed the promise and threw it away, thinking I would get the updated version when it became available. Still waiting ... Garry |

Subject: RE: Digitrad for Mac From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Apr 01 - 08:49 PM Well, it's the same guy, Mark Heiman, who's working on both the Mac and Windows versions of the Digital Tradition. You can get the Windows CD from Dick Greenhaus if you send him five bucks. It works dandy for some people, but it crashes my computer. It looks like it will be an extraordinary program, once Mark gets all the bugs out. I don't know what the status is for the Mac update, but I do know that Mac has just brought out yet another operating system, and that it has compatibility issues with previous operating systems. I can't say this for sure, but I believe that the UNIX version of the database is ASCII, and you should be able to get it to work on any computer - if you know what you're doing. We do have a problem, in that all our technical people - Max and Dick and Mark - are all working stiffs. They have to but the Mudcat and the Digital Tradition second on their list. You people with old Macs can still download the Mac version of the database, but I guess it's best to suggest that the rest of us be patient and use the online edition of the database. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Digitrad for Mac From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 06 Apr 01 - 11:47 PM Joe, The UNIX version is actually not there. 0 byte file. Is it possible to resurrect that one? |
Subject: RE: Digitrad for Mac From: GUEST,Amos Date: 07 Apr 01 - 06:00 PM The UNIX version will run under OS X, Joe. The same OS has been coming out for Macs since 1984, with incremental upgrades and one major architectural shift when the chipset went from Mtotorola 68000 to PPC. OSX is the first really new one. But if they finish the current compatable with Mac OS 8 and 9, someone using OS X will still be able to run it under what is called the Classic environment. Cobble, are you saying you copied the DT from the Windows CD ontp your Mac and ran it straight? An .exe file? Or did you import the Spring 2000 data file and run it from the 199x version of the Mac database? Something funny here...
