Subject: Thought for the day - May 5, 2000 From: katlaughing Date: 05 May 01 - 12:36 AM I have been doing a lot of family research, lately. Found some rogues and others to ponder. I've been asking my dad a lot of questions about this and that, as I find out more. He will be 84 years old on the 8th, just a few days from now. I have this feeling of time slipping by; a great need to visit with him as often as possible, to garner all of his stories and memories while I still can. Mudcat has helped tremendously with this, as it has brought us together, again, in music (at least in a long distance way; we live about 7 hours apart), as my whole family was when we were growing up. I am grateful for this rekindling between us. Please join me in wishing my dad, Gardner Lorenzo "Sparky" Hudson a very |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day - May 5, 2000 From: Peter Kasin Date: 05 May 01 - 02:44 AM Happy Birthday, Katfather! Kat - you're living out something so many people who have lost their parents fantasize about - seeing them again and asking all sorts of questions about descendants and their own life experiences. Your father is lucky to have a daughter who cherishes him and spends time with him. There are life lessons in this. Thanks for posting that. All the best, -chanteyranger |

Mum" Happy 84th Katfather sir. Yours, Aye. Dave ( kat..spend the time and savour every word of wisdom that 84 years have given him...) |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day - May 5, 2000 From: bigchuck Date: 05 May 01 - 08:10 AM Kat, that sounds wonderful. I lived with my father for the last 15 years of his life and only began to get a real feel for his past and his thoughts when he started writing. (His first book was published on his 90th birthday) Now that he's gone, I realize how little I really know of his life. Spent the time with your dad while you can, your life will be the richer for it. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day - May 5, 2000 From: Ringer Date: 07 May 01 - 10:58 AM Having posted above, I'm wondering why I posted; as far as I can remember, I've never before posted to such a personal thread - to a "Happy birthday...", "Welcome to...", "Congratulations to..." thread. Not because I don't wish good wishes (or whatever) to the subject of the thread, but because personal effusiveness is not my style. But this thread seems different (to me): my parents were a lot older than the parents of other kids of my age (my father was 60 when I was born, my mother 40). I never knew my parents as people, only as parents (initially) and dying-people (later - both parents were dying lengthily when I was a teenager; relief, rather than sadness, was what I felt when they died). So all you folks with aged parents: enjoy them while you can. Treasure their insight, experience, memories, knowledge; consider their advice, don't just reject it because they're old; rejoice in their friendship and reflect friendship back to them. My own kids are now at that stage of turning from children into friends. I hope that that transformation can be successful. If youth but knew; if age but could. Happy birthday, Sparky. |
Subject: RE: Thought for the day - May 5, 2000 From: katlaughing Date: 07 May 01 - 11:10 AM Bald Eagle, that is beautiful! As the youngest of my family, I feel very fortunate that my mother was around until just two years ago and that dad still is; they were 37 and 36 when I was born. Thanks to everyone. I will print this out after tomorrow, his actual b-day. I know it will mean a lot to him, as he hears so much about you all and shares your love of music. luvyakat |
